Dealing with Mosquitoes and Installing Huge Arches! Garden Answer Marie: I don't use topicals at all for flying pests. I use electric Dynatraps which absolutely eliminate all mosquitoes. They lure pests in by light then fan pulls them down into the trap part. No zapping. No poisons. It is not an instant fix. You must leave it turned on 24/7 for the entire season you want to spend time outdoors. It interrupts life cycle of the pests by about week 3 and at that point you will definitely notice the lack of flying insects. Don't turn it off even if you have no pests at that point otherwise they will reappear. It does not increase your electric bill. It will not attract any pollinators. Win/Win! I use one 1acre trap and one 1/2 acre trap on three acres. Best of luck!

Wow well said. You are so right. I just started gardening last year and I never needed anything because I had no bugs eating up my leaves. This year oh my Lord I caught red Lily Beatles cleaned up there yucky babies and sprayed with neem oil. My question is what can I do safely and naturally to repel the Lily Beatles and invasive creatures that are attacking my poor plants? I mean neem oil was the online recommendation, but I would really like your thoughts and your recommendations. I hope to hear from you. Enjoy your day and thank you for your videos and showing us the ropes in gardening and plants.

Can't wait to see what you put on those arches - I like the tree idea you have. And oh Benjamin - how cute are you getting! Great advice on the mosquito control - we just wear long sleeves/pants and move indoors when the work is done. Sadly there's no enjoying the outdoors with deer- and other ticks present now from spring to end of summer, we just don't chance it. Plus, air conditioning: ) (sign of getting old maybe): ) Thanks again, Aaron, you are a great 'worker' and editor of the talented Laura's work! Bless you guys!

I dont know if you read the comments from these older videos but I have been using the Dynotrap mosquito attractor that is electric. I hang it in my back porch area and it covers the entire back yard of my house. Its a game changer for me. Its amazing. It attracts the mosquitos with a light and scent. The mosquitos get sucked into a basket and die. I do not keep one out in my front yard and you can get eaten up there but we dont spend a lot of time out front. Trust me its amazing.

Wisteria would be beautiful, but will be a pruning nightmare for the rest of your life! Perhaps a Sweet Autumn Clematis on both ends. They grow up to 30 and die back to the ground in winter. Very easy to cut down (I just pull my down, actually) in autumn. Covered with so many small white flowers that they create a high impact of white in aggregate. But the best feature is th amazing scent! You will smell it all over the area and its delightful.

I lived in Hawaii and I was getting eaten alive by mosquitos which made it miserable to enjoy our patio. My grandfather suggested to place a bucket of bucket of guppies somewhere hidden on my patio. The mosquitos would lay their eggs on the water and the guppies would eat them! I was shocked that it worked! Definitely going to use your suggestions for my yard.

If you put lavender oil on your skin, a tiny bit here and there because lavender has a strong smell and not everybody likes it. We have masses of mosquitoes on Corfu and it is humid so the result is that your skin feels sticky all the time. The other thing is that if you eat potatoes then mosquitos are attracted to the odour of your skin.

I trained a weeping larch along the top of my 6ft. wood fence and it was BEAUTIFUL! If you didn't want to deal with it going nude every winter, you could train any number of weeping conifers. They look so soft and adorable the way they hang down a little. No fruit of course, but you are going to need a big ladder to pick the fruit.

Laura, we have an invasive mosquito called aedes aegypti that's fairly new in our area. It's black with white stripes on their backs and legs. They're super aggressive and their bites cause a bigger reaction. Now I have no choice but to cover up when I garden. Super sad: ( Has this species reached your area yet?

Lol). but what I've noticed is. it also repels mosquitoes! They swarm around me but wont bite. just sharing
