Landscape Makeover Part 3: Three Shrubs for All Year Interest! Garden Answer Sandy: Hi Laura and Aaron! I really like the plants you picked and the areas where you planted them. Very informative, as usual, for each plant you talk about. So many people don't like the cement wall, but I really do like it. It's clean looking and besides that, it will not be so noticeable as the trees/plants grow. Aaron, I don't always remember to mention it, but you do a wonderful job with the videos, editing, music, etc. Please know you are always included in my kudos on the videos! Thank you, both, for sharing!

Laura, this might be the lamest statement ever, but I was always under the impression that a plant zone must fall within your planting zone. For example, I'm in zone 7 and I should feel confident planting a plant recommended for a zone 5-9. However, you are implying that a plant hardy for zone 3 would be hardy enough for a zone 5. Can you explain this better for me? Could I actually plant something a couple zones lower or higher than my own. Thank you for your videos, I do love learning about gardening.

Thank you for answering my questions about amending the soil. I got a lot of great info today about what to prune & what to leave alone. Which is my downfall, I love to putter in my garden. So I get so involved I go overboard & I either go to far & it looks really bad for a while or I kill it. Hands off is a hard lesson, but I am learning it. So I made a little garden of flowers in my back yard. I can cut flowers & putter my heart out. LOL LOL

Aaron, I am tempted to try the Limelight Hydrangea here in NE Florida. I live in Palm Coast. My one concern is that we are 3 miles from the ocean; if we get a Nor'easter or a Hurricane we can get salt air from the ocean. I would prune probably ever January; I want to keep the plant smaller than its maximum width and height. We are in zone 9b. What are your thoughts on this plant for my area.

Yeah I am watching you no matter what! I am definately going to use some of the shrubs in my garden. Must be winter hardy here in Minnesota we do get lots of snow and cold temperatures. Love that you give of your time and talents to other family members and friends my philosophy exactly. Hi to Aaron and Benjamin Enjoy the summer it's going fast. already the end of July. kathy

After seeing your video, I ordered 6, 1-quart Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood directly from PW $19. 99 for 1 qt. Very disappointed to receive 6 plants that are almost dead and were cut back significantly, telling me the cut off stems were probably REALLY dead. very disappointing! I will never order from PW again! They should be ashamed to even send such a plant!

Wonderful Laura, this was so full of all kinds of helpful information, I want to get a hydrangea bush for a spot in my yard cause they are just so beautiful. I've been working on my yard to get it looking amazing, and you and Aaron are my inspiration for some of the different plants and flowers and shrubs that I would love to try. Thank you again for sharing.

So much good information. I'm drawn to color and walk away from the garden center with one of each beautiful thing I see. I know, I know. BUT, you have gotten me over this for now. I'm now looking at water and sun requirements, height, width, and all sorts of math related boring things which is making my gardening a lot better. LOVE all the info you provide.

Super Duper video, Laura! I love seeing these makeover gardens. I lost a Rose of Sharon bush this past winter and am trying to figure what to put in its place. I love Hydranges but am concerned about too much sun. I am interested in the Limelight plant and may look for it here in Ontario. Thanks for your explanations of all these plantings. so helpful.
