Planting Apple Twist Heuchera Garden Answer Vanessa: Love those heuchera and calladiums! I live in what looks like a similar area to you as far as we have 2 1/2 acres and fields around us. I seem to do well for awhile with plants up close to my house but then after years of rabbits and ground squirrels not noticing my stuff, they suddenly will and then I lose things like my geraniums which Ive had for years! I think maybe it might be that theres very little green for them to munch here, and if I could get in large beds and containers like you have then it wouldnt be such an issue, but I cant afford to do it all at once. How do you keep them away?

I'd LOVE to see a video on how to improve poor soil on a budget. My garden was a complete flop because I have near 100% clay soil and I can't afford to bring in new soil. Everyone just says to add compost, but again that's $$$ as I couldn't possibly generate enough on my own. I'd love to hear any advice you can give on how to affordably speed up the process so I can grow something (anything) and recommendations for plants that will do alright as I make the transition, especially those that start from seed well.

Theres that chain sound again in the video, its sooooooo distracting to me. I love your videos so much and learn so much from them but the chain sound is so distracting that Im not sure I can continue to watch as long as its in the there. Unfortunately I have a hearing type of condition called Misophonia and certain sounds stand out to me, Im unable to help it and cannot tune it out. Thanks so much for your time and videos, your plants are so beautiful!

It looks great. Im eager to learn if this method works with the moles. I love the fast flash caladium. Im looking forward to it being available for purchase. The Heuchers also look great (yes, like lettuce)and the editing of this was utterly fantastic. please give us an update in the fall, especially late fall. Im really curious how these do. Thank you so much.

Have you ever tried planting rosemary, or lavender in that area that has so many issues with gophers? I read that those as well as other plants are quite effective in keeping gophers out. I am really loving the apple twist heuchera. I need a few of those in my yard!

Sadly, heuchera does terribly here. because the deer eat them despite my attempts to prevent it. They are great plants and even my perennially eaten ones still hang onto life. I can only dream of how great they would be if they were given a decent chance.

Your gardens are just so beautiful. I just emailed Proven winners that my Home Depot in my area does not carry their perennials they only carry annuals and I hate it. Is there anyway you can talk to them and get them to send perennials to my area?

Do you ever have a problem with tree roots when digging to plant? I have always thought that it was bad for trees to dig around their roots or to pile soil around the trunk. I'm not being critical. Just wondering how you handle that situation.

Thank you, Laura & Aaron! Please keep us updated on the Mole Max as the online reviews aren't the greatest - but people may not be using it properly either; I'd love to find a product that WORKS. Beautiful plantings, as always. :) xoxo

Beautiful as always Laura! Question. I have a huge holly tree that i've been trying to underplant with hostas and heuchera, however, the tree roots are mostly on the surface which makes it hard to dig holes. How do you handle this?
