We finally had enough of our overgrown bushes when my roses got rosette disease and my holly was riddled with spider mites. We finally removed all of the oversized bushes from in front of our home. It took some research and visits to nurseries to plan my new landscaping. Now its turning cold. The timing on this video couldn't be more perfect for me. I was wondering if I needed to wrap my new plants (dwarf evergreens, gardenia radicans and drift roses) or if they would be alright. Now I have the confidence putting them in the ground this weekend that they should be fine!

We've had a couple of dustings of snow here in eastern Nebraska, zone 5a. I don't think the ground is frozen though, so I'm going to try to get the rest of my perennials and flower bulbs into the ground sometime this weekend. I'm hoping that someone can give me a link to your video where you treated the area that had the gopher mounds. Did the Bonide Animal Repel work in that area under your willow tree by Hebie (sp? I can't find that video, but I did find the one of the skunk trying to get into the coop, and the fixing of that area.

I'm still planting in Zone 4b aka Minneapolis, MN because I found hydrangeas for 50% off and perennials for 75% off so I had to, right! Love that you encouraged me to extend my gardening season. Our temps 39 - 32 most of the week with one stinker of a day at 28 degrees on Thursday with more to follow next week. But that's expected in the midwest. I'm excited for indoor projects for outside gardening like privacy fence ideas, cute pavers, Little Free Library, etc. Thanks much!

Great video, but we have snow on the ground here in Idaho, and it has been a lot colder than expected, we have had lows under 13 degrees, and our highs haven't been higher than 40 degrees, so I won't be planting anything, but still love watching videos of people that can still plant outside and have plants outside, all that fun outdoor weather. Thank you Laura for having such great content and inspiration each week. Have a great week, bye for now.

Great info! I was wondering what I could to winter over unplanted shrubs. Always wanted to buy some shrubs at fall sales but didn't want to waste money because I wouldn't be sure where to put them at the time. Thank you so much. I need a cold frame like yours but smaller I think it would help out a lot. I live on 2 acres zone 5 and I'm working on landscaping the property but. It's hard with a blank slate to know where to start.

Here in zone4/5, we heel in (what we call it here) any nursery bargains we couldn't resist, yet to find their location in the landscape, as well as some zone 4/5 perennials in their decorative planters, such as our hardy hibiscus. Those are put in a plastic garbage bag first, to keep the pots relatively clean. Super cold hardy plants (dogwood, monarda, etc) in planters stay out in the weather just fine

I love your gardens. You have inspired me to create different landscapes around our home. My husband thinks Im crazy because I keep removing grass, and moving plants around, but in the end he tells me it looks great. I would like to know when you should stop transplanting plants in the fall/ winter months. I have several plants I still need to move. I live in zone 6 Thanks.

Great! I was worrying about planting bare roots and bulbs in zone 6 B Jersey as my last mail order was on 11/1. Now frost and ice are happening overnight but daytime still in the 50s. I better go dig more holes now as 2 more orders are coming. I have also huddled some bare roots in one location to be relocated in spring. Thanks for the tips!

Poor planting technique -- you don't add amendments to the planting hole. You also didn't tease out any of the roots in the winterberry root balls. Plants are resilient and tend to survive, but years of research from lots and lots of University horticulture extension research continue to state stop putting amendments IN the planting holes.
