Root Cellar Reveal, New Concrete & Setting up Fountains!
video description
Anyway, no matter what bedding you use, you may need at some point to get a cart inside or even a trailer to change it so take that in consideration for your doorS. Yes doorS because the bedding in the nesting boxes and underneath the sleeping perches inside the coop needs to be changer regularly to keep everything clean to prevent deseases and pest.
You also need to make sure the nesting boxes are lower than the sleeping perches otherwise your chickens will not use their perches to sleep and will use the nesting boxes as they are higher and you may end up with crushed eggs or dirty eggs if they poop during the night.
Make sure to keep a small area in the outdoor run with nothing on the floor, just dirt as chickens love to take dirt baths, something very useful for minimizing pests! Add some very small gravel for their digestion (since they don't have teeth) and you're good to go!

Even though we dug a 2 foot trench and added chicken wire and large gravel to prevent digging under, and a wire roof to keep out hawks, the predators tried. Eventually 7 years later, one predator, either a racoon or a fox, chewed a hole in the wall wire and did enter and sadly, killed our entire duck flock. So sad. We didn't even hear it. So lesson learned -- electrify your wire! We didn't, cuz we were over-confident! BTW there is an electric auto chicken door closer that closes at dusk to keep predators out, and a solar wire shocker for chicken wire. Love the show! And little Ben. Inspired by you last year, Hubbie planted 10 climbing roses at our pasture end, 10 privacy trees and 2 fruit trees. More to come, where's that Benjay. Hugs.

So glad you ditched the heat lamp this winter, I was so worried for you and your birds!
I have two chickens, sadly lost my third the summer before last due to prolapse, which is a symptom of over treating, I wish I had known better before it was too late for my little girl, she was such a sweet, smart hen, always answered me when I called her name, made it nice and easy to know where she was lol. I want to get more chickens soon, our other two girls are getting on in years, turning 6 this year I think!

Here it is 2021 and I'm watching it again. You've done so much. Fun to look back seeing how your property is now. And l'l Benjamin blackening his fingers and showing off his elf ears. I think all children go thru a time where you look at them and for a moment and think am I sure you weren't a gift from the fairies? Ok maybe that's just me. Thank you all for the wonderous joy ride.

Laura, you need to go ahead and remove the oak trees. You do not like them. Without them you will be able to see your water fountain, and the back yard. You always tell us if you do not like something in your garden, get rid of it. I realize money and time are always an issue.
Blessings love your family. Rachael

May be a dumb question, but why not neatly fold, store and reuse all or some of the burlap since you have to protect all the stonework and maybe sensitive plants again next winter? Love the chicken plans. all the plans. I am just mesmerized watching anything you and baby Benjamin do. Thanks for sharing.

I've been ignoring your Chanel fir the last few months ( busy with work ) but once I decided to watch one of your recent videos, the one of the chicken coop I couldn't stop watching one after another. So I'm really enjoying my garden answers binge on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Suffolk England.

Your energy & enthusiasm are admirable. I once had that same enthusiasm about getting out in my yard after Winter but, I just can't seem to find it this year. I love the urns & I must admit I am so jealous of your whole set up! You're very lucky your husband helps you!
