WOW!
Can't believe the weather you are having in Oregon compare to some of yr previous winters. We too on central Nova Scotia are having a mild winter so far but not quite as warm although I'm in zone 5 too.
My question I'm concerned about in digging up sod this time of year is disturbing the tiny critters such as worms even though they may be a little deeper aren't you kind of taking off their 'roof' sort of speak?
Love yr new curves though! (in the garden )

Those edges look so great and satisfying! What would you recommend in a yard where there is no solid stand of grass yet? Typically I would start my landscaping by laying down a brick edge to create the boundary. But that has locked me into the initial bed and I would like to have the ability to clean edges and expand using your technique. Any suggestions on creating the bed, using mulch and maintaining the neatness without having a thick established lawn?

I bought the lawn edging tool last fall to create some defined beds in my backyard lawn. I live in Reno, Nevada, and when I attempted to use the tool in the dry fall, our ground is so dense my weight was not enough to cut through. Do you have any suggestions to soften the soil (besides watering which I tried) to loosen compacted soil without adding anything harsh that may harm a plant after its complete and ready for planting?

Thanks so much Laura for this wonderful video full of spring goals, at least for me, since I am under a lot of snow and unless I go out to my bird feeders I don't see the grass and won't for at least 4 months, maybe more depending on how Idaho thaws out, lol! I'm looking forward to that houseplant video, that is all I'm focusing on these days is my houseplants. Have a beautiful day and I will see you soon, bye for now.

I have a question - (I am new to gardening and I really do not know much) - we recently moved to a house with nice grass all around it and we would love to plant a flower bed. Does that mean we have to remove the grass where the bed will be, so there is just soil, or the grass can be part of the flower bed as well? Is it just about the visual side of it or there is a practical reason behind it as well?

Thanks for sharing this video. Question: I want to widen my flowerbeds and have wavy edges but my lawn sprinklers system is for a rectangular lawn. I know that flowers have much less water requirements than grass. Do I need to have to rework the lawn sprinklers every time I widen a flower bed into the lawn area?
Thanks!

Edging question. I don't use a hard barrier in my yard either (just grass to mulch. I think I may be doing it wrong. So I build berms because our soil is clay. Plants do great but there is hill and I find my mulch running off. I guess my question is how do you treat the edge? Do you mulch right up to the grass?

Thanks Laura I never even though about working on my flower beds in the winter. Today it was 54 degrees I thought it a great day to take down outside Christmas decorations. Tomorrow Ill clean out some beds, I need to take advantage of the warm temps. I live in Chicago zone 5 and know the cold days are coming!

Thank you for the great idea. I had edged two flower beds in November but still had two others. Today it was a nice warm sunny day so I went out right after watching your video to edge one bed. Now just have one more to go next time we have a sunny warm day - which should be in a few days. : )
