Planting A Few Bare Root Roses! Garden Answer Darlene: Hi Laura, in the spring I'm getting Old fashioned radish pink roses. It is suckers or runners off my Mom's plant. Was thinking of first taking them off her huge rose bush. Someone told me to replant them into potatoes which a hole which has been drilled into the centre of the potato. Then planted in the ground. Adding a mixture of manure & soil which has been mixed before handed, then added around the roses. Have you ever heard of this done before? The other thing was thinking of trying is getting a different kind of roses, & planting them in huge pots (barrel type of pots)beside my driveway on bothsides. Then have garden boxes filled with lavender, & possible poppies or aster flowers planted with the purple lavender. The garden boxes are going to be a dark brown color. Which should stand up with the coloured flowers, & the repurposed emergency ladders, I remade into to a border line on both sides of the driveway. Which are made up of rope threaded through the rings of the ladder. But only using the top hole of the top of the side of one ladder rung. The ladder rungs are a mixture of colors for each rung. I have a huge ditch which is deep on both sides of my driveway filled with a mixture of grass & last year white daisies & Indian paint brushes also showed up the ditches too.
So what do you think?

Why are the power lines attached to the ground? It looks ugly and is scarry. Never saw that in europe. It's attached to the roofs of houses or to electricity pylons/ power poles. Can you not ask the responsible electricity commpany to attach all that electricity lines on your property on wooden power poles? And as the other people wrote already don't paint it different. It's a warning colour. Don't tuch it at all. And not with something wet, like paint. Also don't plant something too close. Especcialy something big. branches shall not come in contact with it. Maybe replace a part of the fence with a wooden privacy screen in the hight of the yellow coating.

Was I the only one waiting for her to hit a pipe? LOL
Can't wait for updates on these, and thank you for this, and all your rose related videos, I have tried them in the past and they never did well, first ones got diseased and died, the last one actually did great for the first season and even came back the next spring! But then Idk what happened but it suddenly died too. I divorced them after that. but, I really, really love them! So I really want to try growing them again.

So I got 2 Frida Khalo roses (bare root) sent to me and the instructions didnt say to let them sit in water, tho that makes a lot of sense. I dig my holes, positioned the roots, buried halfway and then saturated the hole with water. Per instructions. Then once it drained, I filled the rest with dirt and then watered again to help it settle. The fresh greenish pink buds that were on its branches have since turned brown: ( have I ruined my roses?

Laura, is it just bare root roses that you should hydrate before planting or should you hydrate all bare root perennials? On a whim I bought some inexpensive bags of bare root hollyhocks, eryngium and peonies and I just planted them in pots with some damp soil. This was my first time buying bare root plants and I probably should have done a little more research on them. Well, if they dont make it, at least they were cheap! Thank you!

HI! I tried planting base root roses last year and was unsuccessful. After watching your videos I realize that I didn't bury the root correctly in covering the graph area. My question though is this: The ones I have bought have a paraffin wax coating with no advisory info on if there is anything that needs to be done to the wax. Can I leave the wax on or do I need to scratch it all off?

I used to have a lot of roses in my garden - I just love them - but every year I had to spray and spray for mites and aphids so in the end I did away with them. Last year I started a few again and all went well but this spring they are full of Aphids again - I got a spray for roses for biological gardens but it doesn't work well - how do you keep pests away from your roses?

I would like some advice, I have only ever planted potted roses. This seems easy enough but since I am not very experienced will I have a hard time getting the bare root roses to grow successfully? I need to preorder for next spring as I am going to have a rose hedge on the side of my house but just anxious about getting bare roots in since it will be my first time.

thank-you for your videos! I am new to gardening and have found your videos to be extremely helpful. I have been utilizing this time to transform my yard and want you to know I couldn't have done it without you! Any chance you can do a tutorial on hydroponic lettuce utilizing grow lights? I just know you would find a way to grow it beautifully!
