Planting Strawberries in Containers for Beginners! Garden Answer JS: I live in Ontario, Canada. My growing zone is 5. First week of May, I have purchased potted strawberries that came with a label SUMMER STRAWBERRIES, so I assume that they are not ever-bearing. I have planted them in large hanging basket pots but they will not be hanging. The pots will sit on bricks and the bricks will sit on 1' x 1' concrete tiles. I am hoping that having them raised 3 off the ground, the slugs will not get into them. Could you tell me how I can I save the plants over the winter for next year? I have a garage that is underneath my living room, where I store dahlia tubers and canna bulbs in bags of peat moss, placed in plastic recycling boxes. They survive the winter in there no problem. Could I dig out my strawberry plants before the first frost and overwinter them in the same way?

What NPK is that Berry Tone? I have never seen that around in my local stores. I THINK it is phosphorus that is for roots and fruits in a plant. Nitrogen for foliage and potassium just an overall plant cell walls or whatever nutrient. I have some strawberry roots in a bag from Walmart I'm going to try this growing season. I have a livestock feeding trough that is about 3 feet deep that I drilled holes in for drainage, it's about 6-7 feet long and about 2 1/2 feet wide. I hope it's going to be deep enough.

I live in the low desert where temps get to 117 to 120 degrees. I protect my galvanizes pots with a ring of packed straw surrounded by chicken wire or any kind of hardware cloth I have handy. It insulates the pot from the high heat and next year I have nicely decomposed straw in the middle to use. Also I don't plant too close to the sides of the pots where most of the heat will be. Mine won't be as pretty as her's though.

Silly question, what type of trees are growing behind you! My neighbor recently chopped down all the red tip between our yard (they we're old & dying, but he doesn't plan to put up a fence and the trees here look ideal for a replacement on my side.
Appreciate the info provided here. I haven't tried growing berries but may try this year.

Hi Lauren,
so I planted my strawberries last year in a galvanized bucket (like yours) and they are trailing over into the pea gravel. I have the bucket sitting on a stump so it tails over and down onto the gravel underneath. Should I just keep there until they stop producing? Do I need to prop the bloom sup on something? Thanks!

This was a great video until you ended it without showing us how to do the watering through that tube system. I have no idea what to do about that is there any way you can let us know or is there another video that shows us? Thank you so much very inspiring video! I just have to figure out how to do the watering

I have strawberry plants that produced amazing berries last year but one thing the ants loved them also - mine are June berries and planted in a wooden homemade planter box. Im wondering if the ant issue is due to the planter? Do you have any suggestions to keep ants away from the plants or what my issue may be?

You installed a watering tube system which will probably work great, especially for people who get busy and don't tend to their garden daily. My question is where is the water source coming from to keep the plants hydrated? You just left the tube dangling on the side of the planter.

I purchased some strawberry plants from my local nursery (zone 6a) and they told me not to use straw as mulch because it will mold. I'm curious if using straw for mulch is different for different growing zones/weather conditions?

Be sure if you go to the feed store or a garden center for Strahl ask them if it has gray zone that is a really bad pesticide thats some plumbers spray on their field, They are really hurt your plant and you have throw it all away
