Shade Container Inspiration Garden Answer handmade: hi Laura. You are my go to site. Unfortunately, once I sit down and start viewing, I cant stop. ( is that a bad thing? NOT)
I have planted Ostrich ferns thinking they would be great under my red maple, intermixed with small evergreen azaleas. Holly molly, they were stunning in the spring. Light, bright green as they were coming up. Then leafing/branching out to almost 40 x 40. sadly, Loosing their bright green. BEWARE they are extremely invasive. they send runners everywhere! i have cut off the babies, and passed them off to anyone who wants them. I live in Vancouver, BC so ferns love it here. Fast forward two years. I have pulled all of them out. Far too invasive. I have kept a couple for pots.
A super nice ( ALTERNATIVE) evergreen fern is DADD's FERN Great shape, with a frill on the tip of each branch. Same size 36x36 I would plant many of these, Hands down!
Keep up the great work!

Hi Laura,
This fern is a gorgeous one. but watch out it spreads by runners fast! Everywhere! But the good thing is they pull up super easy. I have many in my landscape. I live in Vancouver, BC (zone8)I have also passed several on to novice gardener family members and they are thriving. They can take afternoon sun, but lose the vibrant lime green, and become a little washed out. But one of the most beautiful aspects of this particular fern are the fiddleheads in the spring. they are very upright, vase shaped and regal. I cut off some of the lower branches to keep the vase shape. Otherwise they are huge. A stunner,

Impatience enjoy moist but well draining soil and partial to deep shade. If they are in the full sun (in pots) with no other flowers but themselves need lots of water. if the are in the flower bed the need water once a day.
I think when they are over watered and have no sun. they look aweful. that's personal experience.
Good luck.

So these shade containers are beautiful. To say that Ostrich Fern can be invasive is an understatement. I love them but in my zone 8 garden they were such a bully so, and here's a joke, give them plenty of room! You, Aaron and Benjamin are a bright spot in my quarantine day. I'm looking forward to seeing the containers in their new home.

Hi Laura. Love the way you give the instructions on how to select the perfect plants for the perfect pots. Its a little bit discouraging because it looks like is very expensive to get so many flowers and the dirt. I wish you can find sources that would fit people who dont have a lot of money

Thank you for the video. What would you suggest for an area that is shade all morning then gets the hard hot sun starting at 1pm-4pm. then its back in shade for the remainder of the day. I don't feel all day sun plants will do great since they will not be receiving enough hours of sun.

Amazing arrangement, I just love it!
I live in Bahrain ( in Middle East) and the temperatures here in summer easily average above 100F daily. Any guidance on which plants could be used in this extreme zone to achieve some sort of resemblance to what you have done here. Thanks!

Way overplantedd for the size of container with volume of potting mix for the growing season. It's like HGTV -- you overplant initially to make it look perfect for the camera, but in 2 months, it will be a death sentence to many plants because of competition for light and water.

Hi Laura, I live in zone 3/4 area in a very windy part of the city. How would you recommend weighing down a container so that it doesn't topple over on a very windy day? I've contemplated just rocks/stones but just not sure if that's the best way to go about it. TIA!

Seems all we have in Ga are the Boston ferns. I can keep them growing all summer, but no matter what I do they never make it in the house during winter. I will be looking for this fern, and duplicate your arrangement. It's just so beautiful
