Planting Updates + Adding a Bit of Color! Garden Answer Eva: Dear Laura, I dont know where else to post this - I have attended a wedding this weekend and the bride to be told me upon my arrival the day prior the ceremony, that I have been appointed the florist and am in charge of the flower decorations in the whole area (it was an outdoor wedding, so she asked for meadow/forrest kind of stuff. I panicked at first (we were in the middle of the forrest with no meadows full of poppys or other typical flowers in sight, but then I thought: What would Laura do? And suddenly I saw dozens of beautiful flowers, ferns and grasses others considered too ordinary to make any decoration at all. It worked out beautifully and the bride was very happy with the outcome (and everyone else was baffled how I was able to pull it off. So I wanted to thank you for teaching me to see the beauty in ordinary plants and flowers and for giving me the courage to pull a stunt like that (which I would consider a total mission impossible just a couple months ago: ) Thank you!

The lilacs have just finished blooming in our area. It seems like the large bushes keep putting on a big show without cutting off the spent flowers. Does it depend on the variety (older vs. newer) if I need to cut off every spent panicle? If so, how far into the branch do I go? There are leaves close to the base of the panicles. I don't want to cut off something that wants to become part of the branch.
I love your plan behind the height of the main bushes and trees going from low to high and back down to low again. It looks good now with the contrasting Bushy color and will just get better looking as the plants grow bigger. Very well put together!

Laura and Aaron, on the subject of your new property and plans for scaling up, have you done proper soil testing on that property? Also, regarding disease and insect pressures, are you prepared to investigate and mitigate? I know you say you don't like to do research, but I feel you need to at least have good consulting resources somewhere - an extension specialist, an association of growers, or both.

Beautiful plantings as usual. Question, what would cause my superbells to shrivel and die? Definitely not too dry, maybe too wet? Everything else in the pot looks great. I had two of them in the pot with other plants. They looked gorgeous and then all of a sudden one shriveled, died, and then a week later the other did the same. Live south of Chicago on zone 5.

Coming along, coming along. Everything looks beautiful, especially those fluffies. Great color! I'd love a video on how to prune and train some of these evergreens so they grow up pretty. Thanks for the updates. They're so satisfying to watch even though I wasn't the one who did the planting. You're getting your money's worth out of that auger. Lisa

Everything looks great and yes its really nice to see the up dates: ) question for you? How do you know if your hydrangeas are getting too much water or not enough water? I have mine and they are looking really good and super pretty lots of blooms but theyre not growing tall and some of the branches are laying on the ground. Thank you: )

Thank you. I love it when you do updates because I do pay close attention to the projects you've done. I was inspired by your project and planted the purple/red barberry in my garden as well as a purple smoke bush AND Black Lace Elderberry. Can't you tell I watch all your videos LOL.

Can you use biotone for everything? I'm in Boise, ID and have been doing quite a bit of native plants that talorate our soils and heat. My soil is. so so. Lots of clay but also lots of worms! Gotta get my hands on some more compost. Any recommendations?

Forgot what video it was on but re: your arborvitae. I Loved your arborvitae so I got some myself. Now Im worried about the lead branch and flopping thing you mentioned. could you do a video and show how you are going to thin yours out?

Why don't you plant a tree that gives shade when someone is sitting on the rocks? Is the budget too small? Or does the other tree in the grass gets so big that it is enough? And more of the roses and salvia (or nepeta) would be nice.
