My 2020 Bulb Order! Garden Answer Inge: Hi Laura, Can you please explain how you plant around your tulips so there is not a empty spot after they die back? I am always miffed as to how to go about this. For example, the white Vidal assortment you spoke about next to a boxwood hedge. What do you do with that area once the leaves have died back? I either would tend to leave the space empty so as not to disturb the bulbs for next spring or feel inclined to plant perennials that would mess up the bulbs and potentially make for a messy look the following year. I have never known how to get around this, so if you could spend some time explaining your method(s, I would really appreciate it! Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much from your videos!

I plant 100 bulbs last weekend and i was exhausted. Cant imagine doing more. Big red tulip, the Canadian kind, are all gone! Maybe next year! Iorder them from Costco web site and the bulbs quality is really good. I love when they make a mixte of different bulbs composition. They came in different bags so you can really decide how and where you want to plant them.
The French blend peach tulip you had show is absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely try to put my hand on it next year.

Hi Laura! I planted bulbs the first time last year. Not many bloomed. can you let us know how to water from the stages of bulbs first in the ground, during the winter, when they first start coming up, then at bloom and after. Sorry Im needing so many details. I treated them like dahlias other than watering them in and I think Im off with the watering and fertilizing. Im right down the highway from you in nampa so Im thinking your schedule of watering will be very close to mine

Fascinated to hear you find the earlicheer and paperwhites stinky! My mum and I used to love them. Her hubby said they stank but we thought he was nuts. Years later we planted a whole lot here and, in the years since, have decided he was right! They now smell like dog poo! (I had a theory that menopause changed the smell for us! LOL) I've had to dig them up and replant near the front of the garden where we can't smell them! Heh.

Hi Laura. I really hope you see this message: ) I loved this video about tulips and I LOVE tulips. I recently ordered some from Dutch Grown and I am expecting them to get them soon. I live in Turlock, CA zone 9b and I have never planted tulips before. Can you maybe make a video about planting and caring for them? Or elaborate on a weekly recap video please? I need some pointers. Thank you!

I am was inspired to plant bulbs I love the looks of but never have grown. I am praying that they all come up. One question Laura, how do I get the squirrels to leave the bulbs alone. One actually dug up my box in the ground with the chicken wire on it. Lol! I had only two of the ten bulbs lefty in the box. Help any suggestions would be helpful.

Hey Laura, I'm sure you've mentioned this before, but what are all the plants in your sun porch area to the right of you? Also, your hair always looks so great. how long does it take you to get 'video ready' each morning? :) Thanks for all the inspirational videos! Wanna be gardener on the west side of our state (Forest Grove): )

I'd love to find a bulb guide that organizes by early/late bloom AND sorts by height. Does such a thing exist? I keep picking out bulbs that I love the look of but aren't really compatible in terms of having a well planned display. IE, everything I love is the same height or almost everything blooms late.

I live in Tasmania - winter now. Ive got one of the species tulips growing it does really well and spreads every year. Our climate is warmer than yours so the fancy tulips have to be lifted every year. So I love the species one just grows on its own. Love your programmes! Thanks.

How close together can you plant bulbs if you're planting in a container? I know each bulb has a recommendation but I think of that mostly for the landscape and I want my containers to feel nice and full too. I keep adding bulbs to my list and don't want to over order (too much.
