How to Clean & Sharpen Your Pruners! Garden Answer Sidney: Load of time wasting rubbish. forget buying a stone to sharpen with - glue silicon carbide paper to a lolly pop stick. the silicone grease can be bought from any car spares shop they give it away when they sell brake pads. Do not pull your pruners apart ( if it is not broken do not fix it. Clean with warm soapy water or put on ground and hit with pressure wash use foot on handles to stop them flying into orbit. Dry with old rag then put in full sun to evaporate remaining moisture. Mix small amount of grease with alcohol to create an oil. The alcohol will evaporate off leaving the water resistant grease as a fine layer. Tip do not buy pruners made of cast aluminium I can guarantee that when you need them most they will snap and if you are using any force on them the broken end will make a nice mess of your hand.

Yes pleaseeeee a video showing all the different types of pruning, super useful! I'm here in Wales UK and we had never heard of Felco until we started to watch your videos. After 6 months of watching you use the Felco 2, my first pair arrived today! Yipeeee. Super super excited to own a pair and try them out, and would just love to know more about other pruners. xxxx

I just watched this today. I brought a pair Fiskars that my husband gave me inside to take apart and clean after seeing this. When he came in and saw what I was doing he almost fainted! Lol. He insisted that it wasnt supposed to be done. Proved him wrong. They are good as new! He went out to the garage after I finished and brought me another pair to do.

HI Laura, I would love to see a pruner video. It would come in so handy to see all the different types and what they are used for.
Thank you for taking the pruners apart, never thought about doing it with mine, it does look intimidating.
May have to give it a try. Thank you for the inspiration as always!

Just finished cleaning my Felco #4 pruners, they kept sorta sticking when I was deadheading. Now they cut just like butter and snap back like a champ. I had had them for years without ever knowing how to clean them. Very useful video for me, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I have invested in two decent pruners only to throw them away when I thought they were beyond repair or cleaning. Meanwhile am I the only one thinking how is brave enough to wear a crisp white blouse while doing this? I'd be a total MESS! LOL

LOVE your vids Laura! Just watching this now to learn how to better care for my pruners BUT EEEK! - 1: 13-1: 40 there is a huge bug sitting on your right side of your top of your head/hair, maybe it's a large wasp? Oh sorry for noticing that!

This is hands down one of the best gardening shows ever. The information is always incredibly useful, well researched, well presented and succinct yet detailed. And Laura is one of the hardest working gardeners I know of! Love the videos.

Yes, please go through all the different types! I'm looking on Amazon, and it is hard to understand what all the different numbers mean. So the higher the number of the name of the Felco the smaller the size of the pruner?

Yes, please do a pruner tool video. I was surprised to find I have a pair of Feldco pruners. They are stuck closed. I have had them for many years. I am on a mission to clean and fix them. Thanka for a great video
