Fall Containers with Cornstalks! Garden Answer Lizette: Beautiful containers as always - never a disappointment!
Im curious about the perennial mums Ive heard you refer to over the past several fall container videos. I garden in a similar zone (safely a 5, recently bumped to 6a. Ive inquired about perennial mums at several local garden centers and every time the response Ive received is a look of puzzlement. Im told that mums are inconsistent and that some may come back but that they arent promoted as perennials. Im so curious, are you referring to a specific variety of mum as being perennial? Is there something I should be looking for to increase my chances of having a returning mum?
Thanks for any light you can or any of your other knowledgeable fans can shed!

My husband and I watch you w/our coffee most mornings. We watched the Urn planting, then also went back to an older video, probably 3-4 yrs old? You were helping get ready for a Christmas Open House the Garden Store including a large chalkboard design hanging in front of the store. It said Merry Christmas w/some round ornaments. Your freehand is amazing, my husband has been in the sign business for 50 years, of course now it's large format printers and vinyl lettering, but in the beginning all sign guys learned many different letter-styles and painted by hand. He was very impressed with that sign, we stopped the video on the chalkboard design hanging up high inside, it was wonderful! What a multi talent you are.

Your urns look awesome! I never thought of tucking in some corn stalks to the center of the pots-great idea and money saver too if it's only for a short season like a Fall container. Unfortunately, our lil baby urn in our driveway got bumped over the summer and cracked and then literally exploded in the heat when the rainwater got in it! I wanted to do just a mum, cabbage, and mini pumpkin in it between the garage doors-but now I need to find a new planter.

Hi Laura and Aaron! Happy Anniversary yesterday! Today is ours! The Savannah Urns turned out beautiful! Those kale are amazing! I've never seen one that big. The colors you picked are so pretty together, and the pumpkins added a nice touch, too. I loved the look on your face when you harvested the pumpkin. It would be nice sometimes to see you deconstruct the pots and your plans for the plants you take out. Thank you for sharing!

I so enjoy your videos. They not only give me ideas but they give me moments of peace. My Mom was an avid flower grower and could make a dead stick grow. I also have that love for flowers and decorating and passed it on to my youngest son. His yard was amazing. We lost him to cancer two years ago and its been so hard to not be able to have him present. Seeing your enthusiasm and beautiful ideas brings me joy and peace.

Hi, even if you or anyone can just answer on line, it would be helpful. I am currently (in fall) transferring a lot of plants, rhizomes and bulbs because areas are getting too crowded. Should I put a fertilizer/starter into the new hole or just use dirt? Also, I know that bulbs get bone meal, and I use that. I dont know if something should be used for irises, day lilies or similar. Thanks so much. I am zone 5-6.

Hello Laura
I just wanted to take a moment and tell you how much I enjoy your show! You always have great ideas for year round gardening especially in the winter when I think we all need a little pick me up to smile at some beautiful flowers growing in the snow. Thanks again for always making my day. Lory

I also grew the Toucan Coral Cannas. I made an error and cut them down yesterday, too early. I just read that you should wait for a frost before cutting. If I store the rhizomes, do you think they will grow to be good plants for next year?

Laura, Love the dirt on your hands. What fun! Found a cement urn at a second hand store downtown. Was to busy to stop. Hope it's still there tomorrow. Gonna steal some of your ideas. Penny Orange Viola! I LOVE Viola's Cathy M/PA
