How to Control Spider Mites!
video description
And as far as predators, persimilis mites are the way to go for an extensive infestation. They reproduce at a rate that will outpace spider mites, especially if they are the 1 week follow-up to either of the above treatments.

Hello Laura, Thank you so much for sharing all you garden, plant and decorating knowledge. I just like everyone have been cursed with the dreaded spider mite. First time in 40 years of gardening so I didnt catch it. My tomatoes were hit very hard! I used neem oil over and over for about 5 weeks and I think we got them cleared up but my poor tomatoes have not fared very well. I know that the discarded infested leaves and plants need to be put in the trash. But what about the soil? I have 95% of my garden in raised beds or pots and I dont put 100% fresh soil into my pots every year. I replace about 1/4 of the soil with new soil, additives and fertilizer. My question is, with this infestation do I have to throw out all the soil and start all over again or will the winter kill all the bugs in the soil. Thank you for you help.

I am on the other side of Oregon from you, in the Portland area (south of all the trouble. Spider mites aren't a huge problem here but I usually get them in my garden somewhere. This year they hit my window boxes and I dusted the flowers and soil with diatomaceous earth (food grade. Something likes to attack my violas and eat the blooms, and of course I always get those nasty aphids. I have LOTS of rose bushes so I start by hosing them off but this year, I dusted those too. I have dogs, chickens, cats and grand babies (and used to have bees, so I do not like to have things in storage that are harsh. They seem to be gone but I was wondering if anyone else has used this type of treatment?

Im so grateful for this video. I live in a hot, dry, drought prone, windy part of Texas. Im growing roses. They were beautiful in the spring, though did have to prevent or control aphids. That wasnt bad, but then it got hot. I too thought leaves were just dusty. Or they were having heat stress or sun scorch. Ive seen these webs in seasons before but weve had rain and it wasnt too terrible just I didnt think much of them. Not this year. Ive used your videos to help get the same products you use. I very much appreciate this video for all the options, when to spray them, alternating the products etc. definitely saving this video to reference again until I get my own system down.

This video was super helpful. Even after a year of producing it. Everything, from types of chemicals/ compounds to use, to application, to PPE.
I like to do research on a chemical before using it because of my biochem background, but for someone who necessarily would not or may not know, this information is helpful in bringing awareness to consequences of chemical use, negative and positive. Finally, the ppe needed for the application. The chems for killing can, and will, do a number on the human body as well! So, well done video.

Hi Laura, PLEASE do a video on spiders and their webs out in the garden. I live in the UK where spiders cover everything, and I have always hated gardening just for that reason. There's nothing nice about walking into a cobweb and it covering your face and arms! Or worse, getting a big fat spider on your clothes or hair! Please can you explain what you do to clear cobwebs and keep them away, and to discourage spiders from setting up residence in your garden? I'm desperate for some help!

Ohhh girl. I have my first huge infestation on 20-25 dahlias. Here in SE Michigan we had a hot dry season in the beginning. Now it's been hit, humid and raining. I'm a mess over this. 20 something dahlias all deformed. I treated with neem oil & cut all my plants. It's okay that I topped them because some needed pinching. The others I topped again.
I'm spraying the plants with the hose again. I'm weeding like crazy. I need lady bugs! And do I treat every time it rains?

Here in Texas, like everything else, spider mites are bigger. Infestations are war. They laugh at soaps. Neem? Oh, look! Groceries. Use Raid for spiders. Until the leaves drip. Recommend to do this at night. Texas sun is in competition with hell for first prize. You'll need a power washer nozzle on the hose after a day or two to get all that toxic crap off your plant. You'll lose a lot of leaves, but the spiders will be GONE.

I've got a pretty bad infestation of spider mites in my greenhouse (melons, peppers and eggplant. I went with Monterey product that has pyrethrin and neem. Good to know about not using sulfur and oils close together. I double checked and mine doesn't have any sulfur and can be used up to day of harvest so that's good. Gave the first treatment last night after removing a lot of the damaged leaves on the melons.

So for those who can't watch the whole video. It looks like her first step is captain Jack's Deadbug, second step neem oil, third step malathion. Repeat process for another 3 weeks. Always spray at night and then do each step a week apart. Spraying off the whole plant regularly, not just from thr bottom with drip hoses, helps knock off the bugs. Reply in this thread for anything I missed or needs corrected
