Laura is that a Smart Meter on your gas mains right behind the rose you were pruning on the oblisk? If so, do watch out for any damage to your rose on that side, because smart meters throw off some nasty emf radiation that can damage plant life placed close by. Plants do not do well being bombared with those damaging frequencies, just something to be aware of, and you can get faraday cages to put around your meter to lessen the radiation if need be. X

Thank you so much for sharing this, I didnt realize I should be cutting all the previous years leaves off. Will be more diligent when pruning my roses this year. Great idea putting the roses next to the chicken fence Im sure it helps keep predators from digging around the fence. I never thought to put roses by them to provide shade. Hmm. more roses in my future.

Can we get a chicken update? What has the process with them been like? Did you lose some (I feel like you had more chicks in the beginning) What are the ladies like? Do they have different personalities? How many eggs do you typically get from them? What are their favorite snacks from your garden? Etc. Theyre so cute, Id love to see more of them!

VERY HELPFUL--thank you! I've grown climbers for years, but cutting them back each Spring always stresses me. It does me good to see you prune yours quite thoroughly and be confident that you are doing the right thing. Watching you is so very encouraging for us! What is the name of that small flexible rake you used around the chicken coop roses?

Thank you so much for this super informative guide! I moved into a new house that has a Lady Banks climbing rose that has never been trained onto anything and I really had no idea where to even start. I have been told it is not like other roses and to only prune after it blooms in the spring, but I can't wait to take after it with confidence!

Thank you for this! I had no idea I should be removing all the leaves - I always thought that I should leave those since they remained green all winter. I know that the At Last! roses were not touched on here, but should I also be removing old leaves from those, too, and pruning them hard in a similar way? or are those completely different?

Hey Laura, can you show us the growth of these roses later in the summer? Especially the roses on the back of the chicken run. I'm interested in growing some roses (been chicken to try before) but need to see the growth from your cuts to really get a sense for what these cut do for the plant. Thanks for your detailed info.

Oh! I loved seeing that clean up and pruning take place. I loved that you were outdoors again working it! Fascinating about the bulbs and how you stored them and now are getting them ready for another year! Love watching roses get pruned. My iceberg roses need a hard pruning and I'm nervous but will follow your demo.

Hello! Thank you for this! So well thought out. Quick question. I just planted a couple of climbing roses. When do you recommend starting to train the canes to go horizontally? Do I do it ASAP or wait till the canes are like 5-6 feet. or something else? Please and thank you!
