YES plant trees. I planted 22 trees on my small half acre. Lost two elm trees, one was here as the size of a bush and the other grew volunteer and I left it, last year but I still have lots of trees left. 13 years later my wee one gallon Aspens have grown into a small forest. No idea how many runners they have shot up. I never tried to count them. It is the nature of aspens. I am not a good judge of height but I believe my Scotch pines are maybe 20 to 30 foot tall and the aspens 30 foot or more. Giving my side yard wonderful shade in the scalding summers we can have here. Especially here. Praying those thunder storms happen tonight.

I don't agree with planting a maple tree in your front or back yard. Your neighbor did it right by planting them out in the field. My parents used to live where a neighbor across the street had an old, huge maple tree that shed its leaves in the fall and the leaves landed across the street into my parents yard which made them have to rake those damn leaves, very annoying. Also maple trees have big roots showing up on the ground far and wide and can damage the foundation of your house.

Since moving in about 19 years ago, we have planted over 15 trees and shrubs. Probably more like 25 but who's counting. We live in the country and have acreage so plenty of room. Sure would like some of those pretty Maples in our 6A - 6B zone. We live in a holler so top of drive is one zone, holler is another. Long driveway they would look incredible along side. You guys work great together. Wish we were your age again. Plant on.

I've heard you say that you & Aaron aren't very romantic but I think you have a different kind of romance. Seeing Aaron come into his own as a gardener & take such ownership over the new property & solve some issues with his own garden knowledge has been so sweet to me. He knows that stuff because of you and I think that shared passion & playfulness is plenty romantic dare I say more romantic than a pet name babe?

Those of us who have heavy dense clay soils marvel how easy it is to dig holes in the soil there? The red pointe maple at Laura and Aaron's old house is a beautiful tree but it appears too large for the yard? Also the red tip Norway spruce is a nice tree but it's too big to be planted a small front yard next to the driveway? The front of the house is barely visible? Maybe both trees need to be pruned back?

Hi Laura, Finally, thankyou for a glimpse of your old garden. What a treat! 13. 45 what are the names of the trees in the backyard gate area, hanging over the fence? That area is less than 6 feet wide, its amazing that you've planted tall trees in that area. All the homes in my area have such small backyard entry ways, less than 6 feet wide, its tough to know what to plant in that area. thanks! Karyn.

Thanks for including the scissor exchange. So fun to see you two together. You may not be romantic (as said in last week's recap video) but the passion and love is there. Loved that music choice too. oh and you dig some incredibly perfect circles and holes. That isn't so easy here in NC 7B. Thanks for the knowledge of placement and thought process of the planting.

Oh dear. Love your choice of Maples.
How about first digging holes 2 or 3 times wider than the pot in which the trees are currently held.
Secondly, elevating the trees just a tad in the hole in which it is newly planted, to account for settling of the soil.
Thirdly, adding mulch around the planted trees, but not too close to the trunk.

I agree everyone should plant trees. In my small neighborhood, but very large lots, no one has really any trees. A few neighbors already had very large trees as all the land used to be pasture land. My husband and I planted 35 trees among our 4. 5 acres. Our next door neighbor said one day when we were planting again, More trees? We said Yes!
