Shrubs, Bouquets, Fall Containers & Gazebo Update! Garden Answer Sabrina: I love that you guys are involved with such a needed, special group. Domestic violence impacts people from all walks of life, from the most wealthy to the poorest among us, it is something very dear to my heart. I had one parent who grew up in stability and incredible love (fortunately I was raised around that side of the family) and I had one who was raised by wonderful people who were toxic together and surrounded him with other abusive people who damaged him severely to the point he never was able to be who be wanted to be, I lost my mom as a teenager due to the tragedy of domestic violence, when I watch your videos with you and your mom it makes my heart smile because my mom and I would be doing the same things, treasure her. I know you do, thank you again for helping such a special group. I type this with tears but an incredibly blessed life.

The willow is a native species! officially NEED this plant now, top of the wishlist as we speak. though I do hope the already carry it at one of the local garden centers, as much as they're wonderful people I get anxious about asking.
regardless of that, you do such amazing and wonderful things for your community, as easy as it is to say they should rename the town after your family at this point, truly its inspirational to see just how much someone can beautify the world around them through something they love. when I got into gardening it was more for just my own enjoyment, and now too can i see as well that so many more people should find their way to help out their own community, as so many wonderful things come of it.

Hi Laura and Aaron. I love how you are always doing something nice for the Dove Project and Children's Center. The bouquets are beautiful and the containers look so pretty! I The Iceberg Willow is so pretty and looks great where you planted it. The Gazebo looks great in the park. I'm glad it's where people will actually enjoy it. The city did a great job restoring it. As far as plantings, I think plants along the side of the gravel areas and along the sides and back of the Gazebo would be pretty. Thank you so much for sharing!

I wonder if you have ever tried growing green love-lies-bleeding? I tried this year and am not disappointed.
To elaborate, it is edible like your red spike amaranth, but has a tone that is pale and would go well with autumn flower colors such as your Cafe Au Lait dahlia. It tends to be more green on the side not exposed to direct sun, and in full sun that side the weeping long flower/seed heads will turn a very faint peach. Leaves are pale green.

One question, those purple fountain grasses that you removed, I thought they could be transplanted to a larger pot or area where they can bush out again and be fine, or do you just throw them out? We are in zone 9 (Texas) and we lost a lot of our evergreens to the freeze in February; and was thinking of replacing them with similar grasses. I thought they could stan our not so cold winter. Im I wrong? Love everything you do, you are so talented!

Laura! I feel like you're living every garden center worker's dream! We get to see tons of gorgeous plants every summer and talk to other people about how nice it would look in their yard (while knowing we don't have space for those plants in our own yard) Not you! Year after year, you sent these plants off to other's homes, and now you have this beautiful property to plant ALL the plants!

I can't get over the difference of the gazebo! I loved it, my style, i would have kept it. On your property (which is a big space) it looked HUGE! In the park, even with them making it taller, it looks right. It seems smaller, but better proportioned. It really looks great & better there. I do think they need flowers next year. Now. to find someone who could help with that! Ha!

Love the flower mess. It's reality and in this perfect curated video world, it helps to see what it takes to get to the pretty. I also liked how you planted without music with just the sounds of what you were experiencing. I found it very peaceful to hear the water filling the hole, the dirt being placed back in and the crinkling of the fert. bag. It's all more real.

I had an opportunity this past spring to add a vegetable garden into a domestic abuse shelter house. It was pouring rain and I was covered in mud, but I loved every second of it. As a survivor of domestic violence I know the power that gardens and nature can have on the healing process. Thank you so much for highlighting it here.

I was thrilled to hear that when the hotel burned down the city made a park out of the lot - what a sensible and much needed act. Usually another ugly building replaces whatever burns down. That park needs Laura's hand in it. I am sure that park could look like a millionaires back yard with Laura's ideas and implementation.
