Planting Some Rough Looking Stuff! Garden Answer Linda: Have you ever considered adding more native plants to your garden, and by that I mean plants native to your bio region? I have traveled extensively in eastern Oregon and Washington, looking at native plants, and I know there are some amazing ones there, although most nurseries do not offer them. You have to search for sources which is part of the fun. I would be particularly interested if you did a part of your garden in natives, or near natives, with low water use. I know the Idaho Botanic Garden has areas planted in the way I am suggesting.

I absolutely love! these rough plants because I cant afford the beautiful Proven Winners and real nice plants, I scope out the clearance rack at Lowes (husband calls them orphan plants. they need a mother) and give them lots of tlc and hope for the best, I so enjoy when something rallies round and grows and if not. well I am only out $2 and there is always next season! thank you for this video, it relates to some of us on so many levels.

Have you ever done a map of the different types of soils you have. I notice that when you are planting the soil is a variety of colors. Is that due to mulch, composts and previous amendments? How far down would you have to dig to get a consistent soil type.
My grandparents garden had black belt soil but the rest of the yard was a poor soil.
When I see your soil varieties I am always admiring all the different shades of dirt.

Your garden is like a public garden even though its private. Have you considered using permanent garden plant tags/markers? I think it would be so nice in the years to come to be able to look and see the variety and the date it was planted, Plant varieties come and go so fast so in ten and twenty years it will be helpful to see what you planted back in in 2021.

Just a thought, I love your garden tours that you tend to do each month. I think next year you should do just a walk through of the whole garden and dub over the video to briefly talk about the space. That way you're not walking through the entire property because I think after awhile - that video will end up 5 hours long: -) Visions looking good so far though!

I would love a series of videos on what gardeners do indoors over the winter such as reorganizing your pantry! Maybe reorganizing containers, refurbishing them, going through plant catalogs together, houseplant care, cooking with all your stored produce, showing us where you put the plants you're overwintering and how they look, propagating new plants, etc.

This is funny. I remember a video from way back at your old house when you talked about rehabbing all the sick plants from the garden center and how you didn't want to do that on your new property. Oh but when you garden. there's just something that happens when you see a sick plant. you just want to try and make it well!

I organized my daughter in laws pantry one day while keeping my 3 grandsons. It was very satisfying. They were getting ready to put their house up for sale and it really shows off their huge pantry. They have an upright freezer and an extra refrigerator in it along with a lot of can goods, small kitchen appliances etc.

Laura have you ever planted persicaria amplexicaulis? It's such an amazing plant for us here in The Netherlands (zone 7) It blooms from July till first frosts. Polinators love it and it adds this interesting structure to the garden. Especially in combination with echinacea and achillea.

We have yarrow that grows wild here on the east coast, but mostly white and some yellow. I would love to get a peach colored one. Do these get trimmed back at all or do you just let them go free? I'm wondering if it will end up with a wild look as they do self seed.
