DIY Pinecone Swag! #77
video description
Tip for all of you out there who have very sappy cones like I do. I pick the cones up from our white pine tree (with gloves to protect hands from sap that hardly wants to come off) I place them on cookie sheets with thick layers of newspaper under the cones and place them in the oven for a couple of hours at the lowest oven temp- 200 degrees in mine. After a few hours the sap has coated the pine cones like shellac and the excess has dripped off into the newspaper. The cones are sticky no more and beautiful with a rich, slightly shiny glow.

I have never seen a pine cone swag before. and could you tell us where or from what tree those types of pine cones came from, please? I have everything for that this project and so I would like to make one before Christmas gets here! From one Oregonian to another, Laura! And I hope you had a marvelous Thanksgiving with your family!

Beautiful! I'm going to do this as a project with our grandson who gathered all the pinecones in our yard: 0) Just a note, my MIL taught me to turn the 'product', not the wire as you make bows and such, it makes it tighter toward the inside, and doesn't hurt your fingers as much! Try it!

Omg! So adorable. I despise pines, because they are so high maintenance. You have definitely opened my mind to a different perspective to them. Since I have 10 acres and my husband loves pines. I have had to grow to love them Thanks so much

Since ticks nest in pine trees and cones, I've always put them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and settle oven on 200 degrees and let them get hot take out and put them In A paper sack give them a good shake to get dirt and bugs off

Youre living my dream life
This is a great idea. I have a bunch of cones picked up during a walk. So many on the ground due to the high winds lately. Going to make a couple of boughs now. Thanks.

Gorgeous! I just made a pine cone swag as well, but instead of rope, I used a flattened wire hanger. It worked amazing and looks amazing! Such a great (and not to mention free) idea. :)

Thank you for the inspiration! I made one with several different types of pine cone from various trees in my yard. So fun and simple to do. Now to start on my porch planters!
