Brand New Perennials in 2022! Garden Answer Sandra: I love your videos and am learning a lot. I am new to gardeningI have clay soil and deer who eat my plants. I have a great sunny circle in my back yard where I would like to plant mostly perennials. The idea of having a cut flower garden where I can give away arrangements to other widows appeals. I am willing to do some annuals also. What advice would you give me on some low maintenance plants that addresses the conditions? I am planning to add a good amount of top soil this year to attempt to improve the soil. One aside I originally attempted to grow a rose garden and they were blooming profusely but ultimately kept getting destroyed by the deer so Ive abandoned planting the roses there.

Hello Laura I love love all of your videos. I have been watching you for years. I have created a list of perennials from your videos. But I need your help with my garden. I have a rectangular flower bed that has tulip bulbs that are coming up. The tulips are in the back of the garden bed. In front of the bed I had yellow lilies. But currently the Lillies have not bloomed. I was wondering if you could give me suggestions that can go in front of the Lillies. Also I have 3 small palm trees that are in separate areas of the front of the house. Can you tell me what pretty perennial could I put around the palm trees. Thanks Lori

I understood completely your smell memory. Mine is Tomato Soup. Occasionally my mother would pack my lunch. There would be a thermos and, when i opened the lid, i would get a gentle whiff of the smell of tomato soup. It doesnt happen EVERY time i fix this soup but occasionally i will get that aroma and, immediately, Im back at school, opening that thermos and smelling my tomato soup. I love it!

Hey all. I was wondering when you start seeds in bigger cells do you bring all the seed starting mix with it during transplant or shake some off. I notice the seed starting mix doesn't hold much moisture and wasn't sure if that would effect the way the plant would develop during the active growing season if I just keep it all. Thanks!

Please mention the name of the plant at the beginning & at the end before moving on to the next plant name, so viewers have a chance to write down the name, should they decide they want to purchase after your description of plant. Thank you.
I truly appreciate your videos and watch regularly, your very helpful.

Cant wait to go along with you and Jerry as you work on these projects. I have a very big yard but also have a herd of deer that roam nightly and they would destroy everything if I tried to have beautiful gardens everywhere like you do. So I will live vicariously through you. Love your videos!

Do you or anybody else know about Blackberry Lillys? We have them growing all over our small acreage. We don't know who planted them initially, but they aren't native to Iowa. They are so easy to propagate by seeds, and tolerate sun and drought. We love your videos!

Laura - do you provide a landscape design service? I live in NM where southwest landscape is very popular. I'm rocking my yard with a small area of artificial grass and need some landscaping design advice. Drought tolerant, full sun, easy to maintain. Thanks!

Hi Laura, Its my first time posting on your site. I love watching your videos and just started gardening this past summer! Can you tell me how to keep away animals (rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks) and insects from eating your strawberries?
