Planting Poppies In the Snow! Garden Answer Rocky: As usual, another great video. I don't know that I have ever watched one of your videos and thought it was a waste of time. I always learn something new, get delight from whatever your project is for the day or just enjoy your company. Thank you so much for all you and your team does!
I can hardly wait until your garden starts flowering!
Did your parents have a master plan before they started working on their garden space or did sections just happen as they planted different areas?
I'm not familiar with Milkweed. I'm guessing it isn't an actual weed.

Wonderful! About a month+ ago I planted 76 Oriental poppies from pony packs in two beds by our ponds. They grew nicely and started putting up their signature spindly flower stems, and many buds formed. One or two blossomed and we were thrilled that they were beginning to show. Then one morning I came out to see their progress and saw that every single one of the sweet flower buds had been eaten off by squirrels! Ergo, I no longer think that squirrels are cute! I hope yours come in in glorious array in spring and survive all predators!

It warmed my heart to see you spread the seeds on top of the snow. My Grandfather taught me to plant grass that way when I was a small child. He and I would go over the lawn in the beginning of February and throw out grass seed all over the yard and then wait to see how evenly we seeded the lawns come Spring/Summer. He believed that it was the best way to seed grass. Thank you for bringing back those great memories.

Did anyone catch what the ground was like under the snow where Laura was sewing the seeds? I would guess she was in mulched beds but I didn't catch it in the video. Also, anyone else that has had luck with this method. could you share what your ground area was like? Curios if this would work in beds and light grass or if I lightly tilled and area in fall to prepair for next year if it would work. Thanks

Years ago I borrowed a seeder and sowed lettuce, and got the most beautiful red peony style poppy in with my lettuce, leftover seed from grandpa maybe? Anyway that was it I wanted poppies, I was addicted but I couldn't seem to get any seeds to grow after that, I think one year out of all my poppy seeds I got a handful of plants. now I understand. I'm going to try this method thank you so much!

I will be very interested to see how these seeds do, especially at your Mom's house. Are you sowing them on worked up flower beds or in grass? Also I have never sowed them on top of snow, wondering how that will work. My poppies self sow with a little help from me in the Fall. Also some poppies are Biennial so you plant this year and don't see plants until the following year.

Good morning, I absolutely love your show. You are an inspiration and you have such a wonderful family. I especially love when you do something with your Mom, you two are a hoot. My question is where did you order your poppy seeds. I have had them in the past, but none as gorgeous as those. I would love to plant (scatter) them over my snow. I'm in Pennsylvania.

small point but i think it is the warmth that causes germination until the green chloriphyl requires the light in order to produce foods for the plant. i am growing the red and the white with red cross. good idea to mark area by laying sticks around. i do not live in the snow any longer and i am trying containers. it does get plenty cold so they did well so far!

Hi, Laura. In reference to the wisteria, you may want to seriously consider removing it, including the root. I've been watching the restoration of an abandoned farm in Georgia. Wisteria filled the trees, covered the outbuildings and took down a very large barn! The plant truly is a menace--I would be afraid to have it even if I monitored it closely.

I love this idea and wish Id seen it sooner. I also love pretty much any video with your mom. It was fun to see her property. Looking forward to follow up videos of both places when the poppies are blooming. Do all the poppies you planted bloom at the same time or will any of them stagger a bit over time?
