How to Prune Raspberries! Garden Answer Kristina: Hi Laura, I have a couple of questions. My back yard is a bunch of weeds and a teeenie bit of grass, plus it is very uneven. I watched a video you posted on June 20, 2017 and it was super helpful to see how it was before and what a difference it made with minimal changes. My first question, do you have any videos on how to make different rooms in a garden to give it more interest? My second question, do you have a video touring your property when you first moved in? The little bit you showed in the June 20, 2017 video was very interesting to see a small glimpse of where you started as it looks completely different now. Thank you for all your inspiration and your motivation to get me going.

Im still struggling to figire out what to prune. Ive had these for 4 years and i ca not tell the difference between primacane or flourocane. i have 2 heritage and 2 june crop. mine are an overgrown mess. ive quit selective pruning because im frustrated with it. I just cut it all down in fall. no video has given me a real understanding of what to cut or given a visual example of exactly what they look like at different times. i know how and when to prune just not what to prune on raspberries. I really hate my raspberries now.

very interested in seeing how these grow & fruit, since where i am (new england) there are SO many wild native raspberries and blackberries that they literally are one of the most common weeds i find around. i would be interested in getting more actual harvesting varieties at some point, but the wild ones grow so well, i'd almost be afraid of introducing something that would be near invasive, if i couldn't assure that they're native in origin. lol though i'd just have to research what species most cultivars come from

Hi Laura and Aaron! We had raspberries in zone 5 in Idaho and I don't remember them ever being pruned and they produced like crazy every year. My sister and I would pick them every other day and sell them for $3 per gallon. We probably averaged between 8-12 gallons each time we picked, and the raspberries were the size of thimbles and were so good! I don't know the variety because they were alreay planted when we moved into the house. Thank you so much for sharing!

This was very interesting! It will be neat to see what happens between the two beds with different pruning methods. I am wondering if you sent the tubers to Ginny at Creekside like you discussed last year when they were visiting you? I haven't heard her say anything about them in her videos. Just wondering. Love watching all of your videos and seeing you sooooo excited about planting and getting the ground ready for planting! Thanks!

I have a large hedge of wild raspberries on the boarder of my yard. I whacked down most of them last year because it was so thick and dense the middle of the raspberries were mostly dead. Should I prune the ones that were left? Im not sure if pruning pertained to
the wild raspberry plants as well. They are not as strong as the ones you have and look more thin and whisky and all grow together in a tangled mess.

I'm in Manitoba zone 3b. And am interested to see how the 2 different pruning methods works best.
I have raspberries too. and am still unsure what type I have?
I used to prune just the old dead stems each spring and leave the new growth to fruit.
Then. I started to just cut them all down in the fall.
It doesn't seem to matter. I get a tonne each summer. Still perplexed as to what type I have.

Thank you Laura for this video! I to just planted Heritage everbearing Raspberries last year and was so confused as what to do. I only have two bushes the third died, I replaced and that one died also. Could have been the gopher that got into patch. I have three Heritage blackberries also can you do a video on those too or do I treat the same?

You have inspired me, again, not a bad thing. I have no idea what type of raspberries I have as I inherited my garden from my mother-in-law when I moved to the farm, and the raspberries were established residents. I am going to try mowing down half of the patch and see what happens. Thanks you for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm.

you wanna see a sht show get blackberries. i made a big square patch with all berries (almost) all together in their own row and omg it turned into a jungle. i am mowing and removing blackberries as we speak. last year they were 20ft from original location because they burrow and sprout somewhere else all the time
