Planting Honey Locust Trees + Picking Out Stones & Marking a New Pathway! Garden Answer L. : RE: Ducks. >> Most Gardeners need proactive measures to protect their property from wildlife, not encourage them to live in the yard.
Wildlife is a pain in someone's backyard. They eat your plants / can carry diseases and bugs / bite / poop everywhere. etc.
The cats might get the ducklings / can't use your garden area that they are nesting in / worry about running them over etc.
It's not like they are out in the country and have 100's of acres. they live in the city. (they are building a 'Garden. ')
To all the people that keep telling them to add a Pond: (would 'you' have the time and energy to build / or look after a pond? Have you ever had one?
A large pond is a lot of work! / Dangerous for the kids being so young / Messy / Hard to keep the water clean, when it gets to 100+ degrees in the summer / Mosquitoes etc.
So. the real question is: Do 'they' really need a pond right now? or ducks in their yard, for that matter?
Or is it. that you just want to be able to 'see' ducks in their videos? Who would be the ones. responsible for all this work?
They have so much going on right now, I think the 'pond' can wait.

If you're planning on putting a honey locust near your home, BEWARE! We have a massive on in the front yard, close to the driveway and the house. The tiny leaves clutter up the gutters multiple times a year, and every spring, they shed what looks like tiny fuzzy dead flowers all over the driveway. We have to blow it off every day for about 2 weeks. That said, the lovely shade they provide is really great. It's a nice light shade, so your grass won't die. I just wish it was further from our house.

Love that you included mama duck proudly showing off her sweet babies. I know you've said (many times) that you don't like creating berms where they don't naturally exist; but the inner circle of your planned stone path seems to almost be crying out for one. It would add a little mystery of What's around the bend? .just a thought? Thanks again for brightening my day. I love everything you do.

Aaron is right about the larger area for the stone path. Single path is not big enough for many different reasons, plus you have enough room Laura for both stones and plants. I hope you make some kind of water pool for mamma duck and her little babies to enjoy, shes adding an extra interest and life to your beautiful garden.

When I planted a tree I also chose the honey locust for a few reasons. Its an urban tree bc of its ability to withstand drought and pests and disease. It has small leaves so its easy to clean up after and its pretty. Mayor Bloomberg in nyc planted a million trees mostly honey locust back in the 1990s. Cute ducks!

I was watching P Allen Smith while waiting for your video this morning. He was showing how to care for his pond. Got me thinking of your garden, and the new walkway. Would be a great spot for a small pond. Adds water to your garden and would be a wonderful walking area for evening walks with your family.

Did I miss where you said you brought the land next door? I remember Laura said something about it but don't recall hearing anything else about it. I missed something some where lol. Anyone know how much more land it is and what the plan is going to be for it? Thanks for sharing as always!

Amazing how hybridizers can make a tree thornless. Those trees in the wild have THE BIGGEST thorns ever. The ducks and ducklings are SOOO cute! I love that mama walked them right up to your front porch. Perhaps it was her way of saying thank you for letting her nest in your orchard.

I love watching you and Aaron work and communicate together. You model well the love and respect necessary in a godly marriage. I am also amazed at how hard you work! There is nothing you dont jump into with full energy and the determination to get the job done!
