Pathway to the Hartley Has Begun + Cleaning the Monster Tomatoes & Vines Out of the Raised Beds! Everything looks so wonderful! Fingers crossed for your beautiful shaded area (I adore all the lungwort! I apologize if I ve missed the explanation before, but when you say your drip tubes are plugged, do you mean because of soil getting in them or does it have to do with your hard water? Would you say you are replacing yours more often than might be average?

I'm in Florida and I envy your flower and garden bed, but not all the work it takes to keep up with it all. We are starting our fall planting for me first time as I've always done spring planting. That is a whole lot of food for those piggies, awesome. Having the beds cleared and clean is an awe time. The 1/4 drip tube may need to go and use the 1/2 but change timing. That's a lot of loss to your plants and would make me sad. I deal with so many bugs the eat the leaves on all my plants which ends their growth.

Love how you cover so many tasks In such a short time. I think I see an opportunity for you to try a knot garden in the portion that will get full sun by the kitchen garden and the new pathway. I ve been wanting to do one with Santolina gray and geeen. You ve inspired me so that I am going back to my 36 acres in The country and selling the retirement home on the lake.
Happiness is where the heart is and I live my gardens there and have an 1800 sq ft greenhouse there. Keep it going girl

My 1/4 inch drip also had plugged up issues this year but last year I had zero problems. The ones I replace after a few weeks didn't want to work anymore in 2 of my beds. So I had to hand water those ones which had tomatoes and 2 pumpkin vines. We had a lot of rain this year so it wasn't too bad hand watering but it was very frustrating to have it not working. I want to do something else next year because I'm not happy with that setup. Maybe drip tape instead?

Dig your peppers wash off the soil and repot cut the pepper way back and put in storage to over winter in a cool spot. I am trying it this year then the pepper has such a jump in the spring. I have watched several videos on this they say the pepper plant has a five year life. In the raised bed with the small gopher like hole flood it with the hole I had a chipmonk a young one came out last year when I had one.

I am wondering if you are thinking of a fix for your clogging drip tubing problem for next year. Will you use bigger tubing, or will you plan on replacing it more frequently? Or will you just live with it the way it is? I'm setting up an irrigation system like that, but I think I won't have the same problem because I have city water instead of well water. I've learned so much from you. Thank you!

As always, thanks for sharing. Re. the 1/4 drip tubes, perhaps one keep two sets of tubes, trading them out a couple of times a season so that you can flush one set while the other waters your plants. I use primarly large tubes and, per your suggestion, bought some 1/4 to install next year to reach the areas in between larger drip tubes. Thanks for the update. I will keep an eye on them.

I think you would love a formal herb garden in the space by the kitchen. While loosing the trees would be very sad, having a herb and veggie garden near your kitchen is the best. You can just walk out your door and pick things for meals. I use so many fresh herbs during the summer and I now have a sunroom that I plan on growing herbs on during the winter.

Is there a reason you don t use the drip tape in your raised beds that you used in your mom and sister s beds? Does it not work as efficiently? I ve been watching to see what works best, but if your tube is clogging and the tape doesn t I d rather spend the money on tape vs tube. Can we possibly get an update on what works best please?

I wonder if you ended up with some defective drip tubing, to have it fail so quickly. Would it be possible to attach a hard water filter to each raised bed? I've used them on a mister system after the water left residue on everything under them. They're about 10 each, but would last quite a while and perhaps keep your crops going.

Love the idea of a kitchen garden, potager near the kitchen. So fun. The backdrop of the stone fireplace creates such a focal point. The walkway is marvelous. Definitely great inspiration! What clogs the irrigation lines? Is it minerals in the water or something else? I wonder if there is anyway to keep the clogging at bay?

So timely! We just cleared out our tomatoes yesterday. I've had a busy last few weeks so it was the last thing I wanted to do but it felt SO good to see it all cleaned up. I'm the same, need a breath of fresh air. I cleaned and organized my garage last week and it gave me the same feeling: P

I m sure all those green tomatoes are pig fodder but if your mom or Monica have any, make a jar of picked green tomatoes. There are lots of recipes. Sometimes called pickle relish but it s in big pieces - a quarter of a tomato. I had it first time in Louisiana a cou-le of years ago. Delish!

I don t discredit all of your hard work when I say that you are a very lucky girl. Your ingenuity as well as your personality have given you a loyal following. Your family keeps you grounded. Your honesty about your failures as well as your successes make you reachable to all of us. Thanks.

I'm sure losing that huge evergreen in the wind storm a couple years ago helped usher you into being more accepting of whatever happens in gardening, happens. That was such a huge, instantaneoua loss that there's not much worse that could happen from weather/nature in terms of the plants.

Pedro and his crew did a fantastic job as always, what a transformation. Watching all of your pathways being installed has made me start thinking of how to incorporate some sort of pathway through my yard. The space becomes so inviting. Thank you for taking us along for the journey.

What a great feeling that must be. to collect a harvest and clean it all up! I know exactly what Laura means when you start excepting what nature can bring and just going with it. It's you & your garden changing/ maturing I think. PS- could it be snake or vole hole?

What a beautiful oasis you have created in your little corner of the world! My first trip over there, I was shocked at how different the native landscape looked! Very desolate. and lots of sage brush! You have done a beautiful job transforming into a beautiful spot!

Laura, the walkway looks so pretty. The guys are so good at what they do. Can t believe how big your tomatoes and vines have grown. A surprise seeing the blackberries. I like seeing Douglas, but miss seeing Russel follow you around while you work. Love your videos.
