Let's chat about peonies! Today I'll share how to plant, care, and harvest peonies while making some bouquets for the flower stand Lynette: A favorite memory. peonies. As a child, we always hoped the peonies would be in bloom by May 25? (the original date for Memorial Day. We would gather them to decorate the graves for -Decoration Day- after a long 3 hr drive, no freeways. Afterwards, we would have a large family reunion picnic. Alas, I have lived with no peonies for 40 years, but always tried to take a trip back east this time of year. A treat if the peonies were in bloom. Thanks!

Beautiful, Danielle! I've had great luck with peonies, but they come and go so fast. I read somewhere that you can pick them in bud form, wrap them in plastic and refrigerate the buds, then take them out of the fridge over a few weeks, thereby prolonging the bloom phase. Do you know if that works? Have you ever tried that? It's been raining so hard here that I haven't been able to get down to the garden, but I'm thinking about trying that.

Danielle, this arrangement has become my most favorite of your stand so far! I love the color combination of the bouquets and how you incorporated the Allium heads to them. It really adds elegence and the Love-in-a-Mist plants are just beautiful. I wish I could come by and visit your stand but Germany is a bit too far away for a spontanous visit like that; .

I-m with all your admirers. I sure wish you were near me. I have my own garden in full sun so I have about 20 peony plants of various color and variety. I wish I had your talents to really create. I have the flowers but they all end up in loose bunches in every vase I can find. Thank you so very much for your videos offering us help.

I really love this video! The voiceover as we watch do you make the arrangements was very effective. I am not good at arrangements at all and so it is great to be able to watch you do several in a row and understand your technique. I wish I lived in your area too! I would so happily drive by for a pick up and donate some jars.

Danielle,
I cut my peonies for bouquets and inevitably the buds do not open once cut. I noticed in your arrangement you had buds that looked like mine and suggested they will
Open, what-s the trick. I will definitely try the soft marshmallow trick but love the look of buds at different stages.

You create the most beautiful arrangements. I wish I lived closer to you - I would buy your flowers all the time. Peonies are always so special, but that blue nigella just makes it unique. Well Done. And can you believe we are wearing coats on Memorial Day Weekend? Have a great holiday.

I have a few peonies and they used to bloom really well. This year though I noticed that on one plant there was only one real bud and the rest of the buds seem like they died before even forming(very small red dots. Wondering if you have any idea why this is happening. Thanks!

Thank you for explaining about the temperatures needed for peonies to bloom. I live in zone 8A but we do not get cold enough. I have foliage on my peonies, but no blooms. Do you think I could dig up the root and refrigerate it during the winter months?

Hi Danielle. I-m contemplating at similar set up for a road side stand. Do you have the customers take the vase/jar, how much is say that bouquet you just did, and do you sell out every day? Thank you. I appreciate you! Look forward to your videos!

Beautiful! I wish I could grow peonies in CA zone 9b. They are by far my favorite flower. I pretend that my English roses are peonies it-s the closest I can do. - where you live to you have to have a permit to sell your flowers?

i've just bought $300 worth of peony tubers so I'm all ears! I live in a sub-alpine climate, so i think they'll be happy. I included 2 Coral Charms which were really expensive - they're also a long term proposition too.

This is exactly the kind of video I have needed for this upcoming season since I'm a new flower grower. One question, can you share how you prune your forsythia plant for the best cut flower stems. Thanks.
reply

Spot-on harvesting advice. If there is a hard nub in your bud it will not bloom. It must be a soft marshmallow all the way through. That means checking every 2 or 3 hours on hot days. Like today.

How do you make sure you don't have ants on the Peonies when you cut them and bring them in the house? I have asked this question before but never got an answer to that question.

Very interesting. Your use of branches as filler is much more important to the overall look of bouquets than I realized. I will be looking for those things in my yard to use.

Very interesting that customers all prefer seeing the same flower arrangement. Thank you for taking us along for your flower stand arrangement and the tips! Happy Memorial day!

How do you set up your money situation? I know it is the honor system, but surely there is a secure medal box to drop the money in and I didn't see a sign for the price.
reply

Does peonies grow on the first year of planting? My peony is in full sun but the leaves are turn brown I believe it-s from sun burn and it-s not flowering.
reply

People will cut the flower stem on an angle then makes their bouquet then will cut all the stems flat so it will rest in the vase the height they want it.
