Hello Danielle! I have a question about the plants you were referring to in the vid that you covered and wished that you would have just left them alone. I live in the same growing zone as you and I wanted to know if you just leave the items in the ground, and they return the next year. I was not sure if they would make it thru the winters or not? I was just curious about your growing method for those plants. Thanks so much for all of your information that you provided each and every video. I have learned so much from you and always think of you first when I am trying to learn info about a new plant. Thanks-Wendy

Creatively,
I made a mistake & presprouted my ranunculus & anenomes far too early. I planned to have my new hoophouse fininished around late November early December so they could get established before it got too cold, but I DIY'd it, & some of the things I planned on using didn't work out & I had to try something else. So now I'm busy potting them all up, trying to wait a couple more weeks, until we don't have anymore nights below 15 degrees at least. I have 8mil plastic on the hoophouse, & enough row covers to put 1 ag-30, & 1 ag-50 row cover. So I think they'll be good if it doesn't drop below 15 degrees.

My parents had success with the bamboo fencing, but they attached to existing fence posts (they lived out in the country. We live in a subdivision and have a wooden privacy fence, which is great because I can go out on the back porch in my pajamas if I want to, but it is not very attractive. Our plan is to begin this year start layering shrubs, using both evergreen and deciduous, so we're not looking at bare wood. No hardship for me! Hydrangeas, weigela, hollies (evergreen and deciduous, ninebarks--the list goes on and on!

I am so glad for you that someone suggested to do a test run. We did the same thing in our yard. After it was up for a while, we didn't care for the way it aged. I am happy we didn't invest too much to find out. Our problem is deer as well as just wanting more privacy. We have thought about planting a hedge of some type, but I don't want to wait for years while it grows. So, I think we will do a wood fence too. I think, for us, we will be happier in the long run. I hope it works out for you whatever you choose to do.

I am lucky to live in the same zone as you (Southern Ontario Canada) so I reference your videos often. I find them so informative, positive, and relaxing to watch. I am taking your advice, and preparing a -gardening- calender for the whole year. I am going to attempt planting cool flowers in fall, which should go in the ground mid September (6 weeks before my first frost. My question is when do you know when you sow the seeds that need to be started indoors? I don't know if I missed that explanation.

Wish I had a basement to store tubers, corms, etc. and grow seeds! However, I am fortunate to have a large yard where I have a few flower beds which I plan to expand to include many more flowers and shrubs (for cutting) and some veggies. It-s unfortunate that the bamboo fence didn-t hold up but I feel certain with the right support, it will provide you the privacy you seek; the color you chose is very attractive. ---

I like the fence. I was never into amaryllis but every time I see yours, I wish I had all of them. You mentioned possibly moving after h. s-. I wonder where you would like to make a new garden. It is exciting to think about. I hope it will still be in the east coast. I like relating to your planting climate and seeing your tours of famous gardens in our area.

I-m not sure if I have missed the info in another video, but when did you sow the cool flowers that you show in this video? Also when you say cool flowers are you referring to flowers that can tolerate frost? Also, it-s very helpful to see you starting some more obscure plants! Do you fertilize your seedlings and pinch them back?

Hey Danielle so I had planned to leave the soil on my Dahlias and store them inside boxes also. However when I began lifting them I had wireworms in my soil so I opted to rinse them first. I've found some with mold already. Do you think they would have been okay in the soil or would the wire worms destroyed them?

I never knew you could force forsythia, but after watching your video I went and cut about 2 dozen branches and here on Valentines Day, I have my red amaryllis and yellow forsythia brightening up my kitchen. Thank you so much, this will now be a yearly tradition! You're a wealth of information and inspiration!

The fence looks good, I hope you can find a way to make it stay in place, fingers crossed. We have a hornbeam hedge here in Germany, from tiny, thin sticks it has grown to a privacy screen in 2 years, very fast growing, shelter from wind for us, shelter for birds. Just an idea you might like -Greetings, Judit

Is there a point of no return if your tubers shrivelled too much? Checked on mine and to my surprise even though we are very humid zone 5 they are very shrivelled. I was worried about rot not this. Stored in shredded paper in a cardboard box, back basement closet. Have I just lost $200 --

Hi, Danielle! Yes, it was me who suggested that you buy just a couple of panels first to see how you like the fence. I love the color and the fact that it does let light through, and I'm curious to see how it looks from the street side, too. Cute hat - Love your videos.

You are so right about flowers and stories pulling the heartstrings. Her Rose story she sent out recently had me tearing up. Haven't seen the Floret story, was hoping that would be at the blog one day. I really like the bamboo fence, the dark color is great!

Hi, Danielle! Perfect timing. I have a dahlia question. I-m in zone 8 and they come back, but most of mine rotted in the middle. Only one came back, but the flowers were so tiny. They are dinner plate dahlias. Should I be lifting and storing them?

I LOVE that sweet star amaryllis! I purchased a few different amaryllis this year & so far they're all coming put very similar- red & white stripes. There was supposed to be a white, a red & white, & a red/burgundy. but oh well!

Do you find that quince suckers and spreads quickly? I think the flowers are gorgeous, but I'm at the top of their growing zone, so I worry it might become a bully after what I've heard from some gardeners.

-it's just fencing- LOL! I am a vintage clothing dealer and when we moved I put a lot of my display pieces in a box together - it was marked BASEMENT - Heads, Hands, Feet. The movers had questions.
