I thought I would grow some of these tall snaps this year, along with stock. Avid grower and seed starter, but first time for these!
So, I got a little worried when I realized the Costa, silver was a group 2-wasn-t familiar with the groups. I was relived when I saw you starting some! I-m in southern Ohio. A three or 4 would probably be safer (we sometimes rush into summer temps) but, I certain it would take hoops to start these in fall. Trying to get the gist of more cool flowers. Your vids help a lot!
When do think you will plant the snaps, that you just sowed, out in the ground? Mine just popped up. I do have hoops and plan on a double layer of AG 19-if needed. Also unsure about that. But, curious just how earlier they can go out if hardened off.

Lol, I have watched many peoples ways of how they store their seeds and after receiving seeds for this year, and got a lot of ideas prior to watching yours. When I received my new seeds and added to my current stash I need a new way of storing so I order the plastic case that everyone uses from Amazon. It wasn-t big enough so after a lot of thought in trying to minimize to keep it down to one I organized it by seeding dates both inside and out, like you have shown. I haven-t seen this way of storing my seeds and this is a great way to keep straight (at least for me) when I need to sow my seeds in chronological order. Like you have shown and put in my garden calendar, like you hav done. Thank you for sharing. Hugs and love from Texas!

I hope to be that organized one day. This is my first year growing seeds under lights. Unfortunately the big box stores no longer sell the fluorescent shop lights. So I bought the 5500 LED shop lights. I-ve read the LED are okay for seed growing. I-m experimenting mainly this first year with sprouting under lights. Kinda playing around to get an idea of how it needs to be done. I expect to make many mistakes this year. It took me 2 years to learn to properly care for water Lotus. But my lotus now thrive and are beautiful.

I had my cool flower seeds grouped together and my warm season seeds all grouped together, but after seeing how you rubberband them chronologically, I've sorted mine that way and feel like I am organized now! I am in zone 7b and planted a lot of snapdragons in the fall, and after the snow and freezing temperatures that we had this winter, they look bedraggled. Would you suggest cutting them down to 3-4- from the ground now to help them grow more branches and flowers this spring? I hope they will bounce back and flower for me this spring. I'm also going to plant more snap varieties soon, like Tall Deluxe, Tequila Sunrise, Apple Blossom, and Madame Butterfly. Thanks for your helpful video!

Whilst recently organizing my way-too-many seeds collection [lol], figured I needed to create an excel spreadsheet to manage it all! I like your approach SO much better. And the pencil/ink distinction is a terrific method.
Btw, the info on some of the packets is insufficient to sort out which flower seeds benefit from 'stratification' to germinate and/or which require 'vernalization' to achieve flowering 'this' season. Haven't been able to locate a complete 'vernalization' list. Also, has anyone found that merely placing packets in fridge, no added moisture, is sufficient?

Luckily I caught this early and I was able to order Legend Light Pink, Chantilly Bronze, and Costa Silver. They should be arriving tomorrow! I'm guessing you have another bundle of seed packets that are for sowing in Fall like Nigella, Larkspur and Bells of Ireland. The cool flower strategy is crazy and I would be skeptical if I didn't watch your many cool flower videos including one where you are planting out hardy annuals with snow in the forecast. Thank you! By the way, can you explain whether Yarrow is an annual or perennial?

I store mine by planting date as well, but I log all relevant info differently. I have a page per planting for example. I started my sweet peas Feb 1st, on a Feb 1 sweet pea page I list the varieties and how much I planted, how long the seeds were presoaked (1-1/2 days, how long to pop up through the soil (5 days, if any didn't pop up - I usually have close to 100% germination on everything. When I start hardening off, when I plant out with cloches, when the cloches come off, when the first flowers start blooming and how many bouquets I get at what date, etc. This way when I look back at my sweet pea info its all there and I can decide if I want to make any adjustments.

Hello there! You wouldn't by chance have a pdf or something that details when you start your seeds? We are in the same zone (I'm not too far from you in Weirton, WV) and this is my 3rd year but I still can't seem to get the timing right so, as of now, whenever you sow something, I will too. Today, I am sowing my snaps. I'm sowing them all though because I have no idea what type they are (1, 2, 3, 4, etc) as that info is not written on my packets. Thanks in advance for any advice you may want to bestow upon me. lol

Wow Danielle! Because of you I have learned to really love snapdragons. I have learned when to cut them and I so enjoy their longevity in a vase or arrangement. I start them from seed but will be more adept -I hope- since watching the toothpick method. Would you be willing to share the brand you use of the 48 cell tray? I need to purchase some that are durable. Also, is a heat mat essential? Just love your clear, concise and very helpful tips for seed storing and seed sowing. Thank you so much! Janie

Loved this video! I am just counting the days until I start my snaps. I am sooo in love with them! This year, I will be planting Madame Butterfly Bronze with White (I fell in love with her colors, some Chantilly Velvet snaps, some tall deluxe ones from Rareseeds, Cherry Rose from Johnny's Seeds, and some Knee Highs from Renee's Gardens. I would sooo love that Bridal Pink variety! Ooh la la! I've been busy mapping out my borders. I can't wait to get my hands in the soil and get planting flowers!

I keep a gardening journal, with lists of what goes in each bed or border, flower pictures with heights of each flower. I also make maps of my beds and borders. My seeds are bundled for what I will plant indoors month by month; Direct Seeders are bundled together too. I add a card with the month on each one to keep them separate; if I plant veggies that month, they go in there too. Each month, I jot down on the calendar when I will plant what. It all helps me stay on top of everything!

I-m going to plant snapdragons with winter sow method. I did both at the same time last year and while the indoor snaps germinated much sooner the outdoor seedlings caught up and seemed stronger and healthier. That was my first year so hopefully I-ll get the same results as I-m not sowing any inside this year so I have more room for other less hardy annuals. I will be starting my snapdragons this week, a variety of Chantilly, Madame Butterfly, Potamac, Twinny and Rocket. I am also testing out a perpetual calendar I purchased from Fruition Seeds. Hopefully this will help my planning for future years.

One of my favorite flowers! They volunteer themselves every year in the front of my house and they don't need watering even in the high desert. I have no idea what variety they are but they grow in several colors. The only thing I ever have to do to them is when they start turning brown in the fall I pull them up. By then they've already dropped seeds for next year.

I've got my snaps going for overwintering down here in Australia. I can't help feeling a bit sorry for them as they'll face a pretty cold winter but they'll be fleeced. One question Danielle - can you leave gladioli corms in the ground to naturalise like daffodils, or are they like dahlias and have to be lifted, or do you just throw them out? Nice video.

My packet says to sow seeds outdoors after soil warms so I'm assuming it is from group 3-4. Can you still start this group indoors? I'm in zone 6b. I'm assuming 4-6 weeks before it's time to go outdoors? I appreciate your feedback.

I noticed (I think) you put 2 seeds per cell - what rate of germination do you get, and if 2 pop up do you pull one?
Also, you didn't add any mix on top of the seeds - do they need to be on the surface.
I'm in 6b as well and are starting my snapdragons for the first time tomorrow.

-Cool Flowers- learning about cool weather growing is such an amazing planting concept. I love cool flower varieties but felt I couldn-t grow them since I-m in central Texas zone 8b. I started watching Lisa-s videos, such an amazing grower. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge, you inspired me to grow snaps next year!
