We have lots of garden maintenance to do! Join me for a day of controlling Japanese beetles organically, weeding, deadheading, pulling out beds, flipping beds, and seeding more sunflowers! Ohiogardengoddess: Oh my Danielle I'm so sorry to hear about your flower stand issues. Don't like that at all. However your method of removing the Japanese beetles. lol. That had me laughing. If I pulled out my vacuum and did what you do my neighbors would think I lost my marbles lol. They are so nosy, they would never let that one down! ---

Everything is looking beautiful. It sucks that people are stealing from you at the flower stand by not paying or underpaying. I am sorry that is happening and I hope you can find a solution. The tomato pie looked delicious. I am envious of your ripe tomatoes. Western Washington isn't the best place for growing tomatoes, especially here with lots of deer eating everything. This year I am using a crop cage, and that is better than anything else I have tried, but I got greedy and filled it completely with pots of tomatoes, which I have on drip, so now, not only can I not get to most of them, they are shading each other, too. --- Maybe next year I will have figured out how to get a harvest under these circumstances. It's frustrating because I grew up on a farm, and have previously grown lots of tomatoes, along many other things, but my present circumstances are challenging and I am having to learn how to adapt and be successful. hopefully. I think I am almost there, though, and just planting fewer next year will be the last piece of the puzzle. -

I don-t have a cord that long but I love the vacuum for the beetles. I have had other things going on and not spent much time in the garden. The next couple of days are going to be maintenance days. I bought a gorilla cart a few years ago and it is wonderful. I can fit flats of flowers, buckets of flowers or tons of weeds. I highly recommend it for those maintenance days when you have heaps of weeds and dead heading to do. I love the glass on either side of the hummingbird arch. I bought a mens wide leather belt at the thrift store and double pruner sheath from a. m. Leonard and it has saved my pruners from being lost in the flower beds and compost pile. Please let us know about the rudbeckia die back. It happens to some of mine as well. I assumed it was fungal but would love to know the outcome.

This is a bit off topic, but I needed to tell you how grateful I am to watch and learn from you. I remember you said how much you love to grow daucus dara. I purchased the seeds and last year I winter sowed them, I noticed that mine were only about 2ft tall where other gardeners had 6ft tall plants. this year I decided to try other things to winter sow with complete failure. I have been heart broken that I would not have the beautiful garden I had in mind. then a few weeks ago I noticed that I had hundred and more Daucus Dara sprouting everywhere. they reseeded along with some amaranth and cosmos and an amazing amount of sunflowers also. Thank you for your inspiration! I don't have the cut flower garden that I planned on, but I have an amazing wild garden that I am now enjoying.

A day in the garden with you is reality! Thanks for sharing all of the work that goes into maintaining your beautiful landscape. Being shortchanged for your reasonably priced & beautiful bouquets makes me so sad. Perhaps there is a local place where you can sell your bouquets like Nicole from Flower Hill Farmer does? Another thought, offer bouquets at different price points $10, $15, $20 or $25 (I don't know what your charge) so your customers can choose a bouquet they can afford (not to be cynical at all, but with rising prices on everything, a floral bouquet may be a luxury for some right now. However, if you are just being swindled by customers taking advantage, I am so, so sorry; that's just not right. Let us know what you come up with as a solution.

This is Jane from Pennsylvania I have that 30 gardens up at memorial Park in New Kensington I've been doing about 18 years now I probably told you this before the deer eating my hostas I didn't put my egg yolk and water on them this year so it sucks cuz they're so pretty oh well in a few lose a few but yeah I can't believe you have so much trouble with mosquitoes I'm out there all the time of course I have o negative blood for some reason I was from Michigan originally so I never had trouble up there either so I don't know if it's my blood type or or what but I don't see other people really having too much trouble where I'm at either so sorry you have so much trouble I don't know why but have a good day kiddo okay talk to you

That hole in that tomato looks more like Cat Bird activity. I've had them peck holes in my tomatoes in the past even when there is ample water available. I feel sorry for you that in an environment with the Amish horse & bug-e-ing down the street, you still experience thievery & dishonesty! It appears crime exists everywhere. And I would love a video on Fall seed planting. I seem to remember hearing you mention something about some plant varieties respond better to being sown direct & overwintering. Larkspur. Nigella? BTW, your garden still looks stunning despite the intense heat we've had. I guess you just got more rain & less drought.

Beautiful, Danielle! I love watching you work and seeing how you prioritize what needs to be done. It's so helpful! Sometimes I feel like I'm working so hard, there must be an easier way, and then I realize that there isn't! The idea that people would steal from a flower stand is so disappointing. Maybe you should set it up only when someone can be within eyeshot, or at least earshot? People might be ashamed. Or maybe a sign might help? -Please don't take my flowers without paying -? Near me there's a temple with a sign in their parking lot that says, -Thou shalt not park here. - It works most of the time -

Hi Danielle! I'm so sorry people are under paying you. Thay makes me so sad! What an awful thing to do when you work so hard! Your garden is looking gorgeous. Yum on that tomato - - I'll have to try that recipe some time. So glad to see you plant out more sunflowers. I may do the same. I'm also in zone 6 over in Massachusetts. Wondering if I collect seeds from my strawberry blonde sunflowers that bloomed a few weeks ago, if they would be ready to germinate being they are really new seeds! - I may experiment. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Danielle! You've motivated me to get out and get some things done. We had a terrible problem with Japanese Beetles this year. I placed Bonide beetle traps around the perimeter of our yard and they worked great. I still had to hand pick some of the beetles off of my dahlias but it was very manageable. I'm so sorry people are taking your beautiful bouquets. Is it possible to supply some nicer hotels or businesses with your bouquets? Hugs to you and your family, Rocky and Grace.

I'm also feeling very sorry for hearing people are taking your flowers without paying.
They are bred with so much love. A shame indeed.
I live in Europe(Belgium. We have here a systeem for bread, fruits en flowers. We call it an automaat(vending machine. You can even cool it. It will be an investment for sure.
But than you can sell your flowers day and night. Seven days a week.
I hope you will find a solution for this problem.
Take care.
Love you and your garden.

What a shame that a few dishonest people spoil it for the rest of us. I really don't know how these people live with themselves!
What if you advertised for a bouquet bar? You could open it up for a few hours. Maybe once or twice a week. That way you can be there to supervise. I'm sure the word would get out about your lovely bouquets and your loyal customers would make it a habit to go on those days( I know I would if I lived near you LoL)

I sprayed neem oil on Japanese beetles a couple of years and it has helped so much. This year I didn-t have much of a problem with them. Your videos are so informative and inspiring. It-s awful to have to cover your entire body to protect yourself from mosquitoes but I have to do the same thing. I-m in Missouri and we have horrible biting gnats that I-m allergic to. Your gardens are beautiful and I appreciate all your hard work.

You work so hard in your garden, everything is looking wonderful. It is a good lesson for people who want to be flower farmers that it takes work to do that too, just like with vegetable farming. I attended a tomato tasting once, they were giving an award for the sweetest tomato and Lemon Boy won. The woman that entered it was so surprised. I've never grown it but it might be a fun one to try. Thanks again for your video.

I am so sorry you are not getting the small fee you are asking for your beautiful blooms!
I too am having difficulty, I sell out of a flower cart at home and have placed fresh flower signs on the hwy in my small 3 block town and I have had 2 of my 5 signs stolen. I just ordered some professional ones and now I am afraid to put them out.
I am just heart sick.
I do not understand evil.

Did u hear about the rudbeckia yet? I lost most of mine too. It started out fine in the spring and then within a week, 2 of my 4 plants dried up and died, 1 is still alive but on deaths door and produced itty bitty flowers, and 1 is perfectly fine. What gives? They r all in the same spot. I am new so just figured, probably my bad but now u have a problem so. .. .. Hmmm

Using the vacuum for the beetles is pure genius! I never thought if that. The beetles love my rhubarb. Thanks for sharing your work day. It-s been so hot here lately that I-ve let some things go and it-s wild out there but today the humidity is lower so I-ll get out there and do some work. I-m definitely going to make the tomato pie. It looks so good.

So you really do vacuum them up! I didn't understand when you said so in your response. I won't be able to reach them on higher branches and vines. Thanks so much for showing all this Danielle. As always your information is invaluable! So sorry to hear about your beautiful flower bouquets. It's too bad some people are as dishonest as they are.

Danielle, have you ever thought of selling your flowers at senior centres and retirement homes? I recently started a small flower farm ( inspired by you and Laura) and have booked dates to do -bouquet bars- or flower arranging with them. They are so thrilled to work with flowers and it-s a secure way to get paid.

Thanks for the great video! It's nice to see the real work that gardens need from time to time. And I'm so sorry to hear about your flower stand problems. You're such a good person, I wish people were more honest and did the right thing. Also, you should try yellow brandywine tomatoes, they are really good -
