Insecurity at the Off Grid Cabin - Doors, Firewood and an Outhouse

I finally install a front door on the cabin and explain whether it's the final product or not. I almost complete the outhouse, I add some more moss to the walls (chinking) and I cut and split a face-cord of red oak firewood. I cook three meals - venison stew, spanish frittata and sourdough grilled cheese. In My Self Reflections, I talk about insecurity, shyness and the overcoming of it to lead a happy and successful life. The off grid log cabin is starting to feel a little more like a home with operating doors and windows, a functional outhouse, a pile of firewood to heat the tiny home and the beginnings of a stone and wood plank floor to keep the cabin warm and dry under foot. Winter is basically here - the weather fluctuates around the freezing temperature mark, with snow one day and rain the next. The clay and moss that I have stored in the cabin for chinking is frozen solid and it takes a hot fire in the wood stove to thaw it out

When do you think or do you think youll add some chickens up there to supplement having fresh eggs every morning as well as fresh chicken when you want? Even if you free-ranged them in the daytime youd only need to pen them up at dusk and let them out in the morning. Supplementing some feed would help with a small amount during the year and a little more in the winter when food is scare. Once your hens started to lay eggs they would pay for themselves within six month. Add a gosling when the chicks were young and it would grow into an excellent watchdog against all predictors. Let a brooding hen sit on a clutch of eggs once every six weeks to two months you would supply yourself with new hens as you could fed on the older ones you are replacing. Chickens are the easiest and cheapest way to supply your home with food. Im watching older episodes so I know youll be adding your dog Callie one day who Im looking forward too. Another suggestion is a milking goat to help make cheese and butter too and you can supply yourself with added meat too. Its exciting to see what you will be doing as time goes on and your wife finally moves in. Also will you be adding on another room or two as women tend to need more nesting space? Lol. And a final question, will you add additional solar to accommodate a refrigerator? I only ask as my wife said your wife will eventually want a few more electrical appliances? Men as you have proven so well (thank you) that we can live with far less modern conveniences. Not knowing your wife I am only going by the women I know who have also proven their needs so well. (lol) I ask this in partial jest and half based on reality. You are a very good man and Im sure you have thought and asked this with her prior to the move. She sounds like a wonderful women and you sound like you have a great marriage. It makes me feel good that there are men that are as good as you as we are so often maligned when I really believe there are many more good men living today with it on the rise as you so well prove. Thank you for your wonderful videos. Not only are they informative and interesting but very entertaining which I think
Is better than over 95% of whats on the television right now. Keep on going and building and hunting and supplying us with a good dose of what it is to be a good men today with yesterdays values and abilities. I love your program and your easy going style and great attitude. I also believe you to be a great role model for our children and young people today. Although your chosen lifestyle may not suit everyone but your values and core beliefs do. I may be a few years older than you but you have become my role model. I look forward to every new video and what you bring to us with your life in the wilderness. A great huge pat on the head to Callie who is also my favorite breed although Ive chosen to rescue dogs set for euthanasia and dogs like her are never offered for adoption as they are all such wonderful animals and i see why they are so loved by many and are taken care of as they should be. Thank you again and God Bless!
Sincerely,

You must be a great dad. But you know, a woman, even a young one, needs to learn how to allieve tension when interacting with anyone. Especially men. Now that she knows what will happen, she needs to visualize what to do. Go back to the store and do it. Flirt and lots of smiling. Light touching. He needs to learn how to flirt. Flirting is only testing the waters. So tell them not to be afraid to tread water!

I bet you are a wonderful father! My wife and I had our first 4 months ago and I've been working my way through your videos while I feed her and rock her to sleep. Your advice is sound and I bet having a cup of coffee with you around a campfire would lead to some very fulfilling conversation. Very much enjoying your content and hearing about your life! Keep it up!

The Danish Ice Patrol in the North-Eastern part of Greenland has never been able to establish an bear proof cabin to their winter supplies. The polar bears alwayes manages to get into their cabins, no matter how safe they think they are. Once a bear has found one cabin, their trail will lead to the next and so on.

You mention making bread is labor intensive. Check youtube John Kirkwood Whole Wheat Bread Made Easy at Home. Delicious, light close crumb bread, NO KNEADING. John is a retired baker. This bread is so easy and makes a beautiful large loaf.

Just read the guy from Iraq. Ya know, some Americans dont appreciate our freedoms. They should spend some time in countrys that dont have a democracy and see how fast they become patriots

This is awesome Shawn, in terms of having a farm. I don't know if you plan on having a farm by the cabin but I think it would enhance your self reliance plan. Once again great video.
