My wife, daughter and I make maple syrup and sugar on the old blue Vermont Castings woodstove and I carve a long handled spoon from a birch tree that I've been using for several projects, including birch tar and glue

I've always wanted to make maple syrup. I wouldn't have thought to carve a spoon; that took the cake. I imagine I would have used a stick. maybe I would have peeled the bark. When I saw you with the block of wood at the end, I thought oh wow, is he going to carve a funnel? LOL I enjoyed that. Thank you. very soothing.

You are so amazingly skilled and talented, Shawn. You are able to instill a sense of security that died out a long time ago. No matter what you desire or what poses a problem or threat, YOU have it under control. with out the use of a cell phone.

Watching you carve that wooden spoon reminds me of my Grandpa when he made us wooden whistles and pop guns out of elderberry. That was 46 years ago when he was probably around 80 years old.

My favorite part of maple syrup season is its the first time to get outside during nicer weather, after a long, cold winter.
A definite way to help beat the cabin fever of January/February.

I only recently started to follow the episodes and certainly missed quite a few of those. I believe I saw some light bulbs on at least one episode- what is the source of the energy?

A Relic is a TREASURE, and the old is is the most PRECIOUS it is. . If you call somebody an old Relic, you call it a treasure it is the most precious thing you got and possess.

So, yeah, I think I'll just make a quick wooden spoon while I'm chopping wood to go in the fire to cook the maple syrup I just collected. Shawn you are too much!

It's fun to watch you creating The Wooden Spoon while making your maple syrup. I really enjoyed seeing you and your wife together 2.
How did the syrup turn out?

I'd missed the peace and quiet of your videos. Thank you for sharing, as always. Beautiful spoon - love that you could turn something right then and there. :)

I know I'm late to the Syrup party, but 1. Is the music in the background your own? It's wonderfully peaceful, if it is. No need to reply, just saying.
