Shawn, great looking lake trout! 12 lbs. and 34 inches? Good-looking rod. You can probably get by with an 8 lb. test leader. That would reduce your fight to about 10 minutes. Fluorocarbon is near invisible.
I've heard burbot taste like scallops. Since they supplant more desirable fish like lake trout and whitefish, I would imagine there is no limit on them. Fish near the bottom. They bite better at night. Put up a tent and use rattle wheels. You can probably catch dozens.
Although, brook trout are mighty tasty, my fav dish is baked lake trout, with white sauce w/ egg spread over a cooked section. In Proenneke's later years he changed his diet from big game to cold-water fish and berries. Probably extended his life.

At 13: 22, I listened four different times because I kept hearing that's the biggest lake turd I've ever caught. I knew Shawn James would not be calling that beautiful fish a lake turd, so I just gave up. I grew up fishing for small and large mouthed bass, catfish, bream, and sac a lait (white perch) This Louisiana girl is going to need a Yankee fisherman to tell me what kind of fish that is! . It's beautiful.

For a second while you were on the lake Shawn I got a glimpse of what a white out might be like, 7: 09 what would a person do in that situation, stay in one place and wait for visibility to come back I think would be the only way? What do you do in a white out Shawn? 13: 16 wow humongous if that's a word, how would that look on the wall of your cabin. On a baby rod and line too.

Wow, what a toad of a trout. Great fillets.
I fish for Ling here on the Pacific coast. The taste of ling is amazing. As is Pacific Halibut. Trout is one of my favorite freshwater fish to catch and eat. Watching you ice fish brought back memories of my own ice fishing trips. Enjoyed this video.

So glad you got a shot of that beautiful fish. I caught lovely fish with out a stringer and a witness,
before cell phones. I just let it go. Large mouth bass are not that tasty to me.

I did not know that lake trout and freshwater cod were the same thing (hope I heard that correctly. I love saltwater cod so I guess I will have to try freshwater cod if I can find someone to catch it for me!

Don t forget to turn the nozzle on the Berkey off when it s almost out of water. Nothing like filling it up at night and finding out in the morning it s been dripping on the floor all night long.
