I think this may be the most dangerous few days I've spent building my off grid homesteads alone over the last 7 years! John: Please be careful! I'm glad to see you roped off. I was a roofer in my younger days, and steep work was not my forte, especially metal. Glad to see you putting the screws on the raised portion of the rib. So many people I see install the screws on the flat and are relying solely on that tiny neoprene washer. More volume of rainwater is going to flow over that fastener/washer on the flat section of the metals profile than the rib. Love the cupola, nice architectural touch. Are you going to install drip edge on that portion? All you need now are some finials and a weather vane. Sorry for babbling, keep up the fine work, Sir.

Shawn glad to see you re installing that metal roofing the proper way with the screws on top of the V! I don t give a crap what these new wave people say who say the screws should be put in the flat surface of the valleys! Well Their wrong, metal roofs have been put on homes and businesses for 2 hundred years with nails in the top of the V s and many old structures still standing. But the water isn t gonna stay on the top of the V it s going down in the valley flats. People can follow this new guideline all they want to but if I install it my screws are going on the top of the V s at the least place likely to leak. I think these metal companies are in cahoots with the lumber companies To tell people that lie about installing in the flats so they could sell more lumber & metal roofing when things fail in 15-20 years. More so than they would the old traditional way of installing on top of the V s.

I very much appreciate what your doing here Shawn, having done this myself a number of times. It brought back memories and amazement on my survival during my project. It all looks super and will be Lovely indeed! I m eager to see what you will do inside compared to your old place. Your new homestead is truly magnificent but not that the last was not. I m sure it was a hard thing to have to give up but you ve advanced for sure! Kind Thanks for sharing once again Shawn and Many Blessings to You and your Family! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

Shawn an other great video. By now the roof is probably finished, but how I solved a similar roof. The eve of my roof was 18 feet, the peak about 26 feet. I built a slide 24 feet long and then with a rope and a visa grip and attached rope I climbed on the roof and slide the long roof panels up to the peak and screwed the panels to the 2x3 inch perlines. Never lost one of the 52 panels. It just took a lot of time. Stay safe.

I gotta say, I cringed every time you shoved one of those guillotine blades up on the roof man. One slip and they would have sliced and diced you. It is looking REAL good Shawn. I am still amazed how you just keep truckin on and on and on. I love watching and learning here. Thanks for all the extra work you do to make these presentations so we can all sit here and enjoy them. THAT in itself is a great work. Thank you.

Beautiful work there SHAWN & OUR CALI! Praying for your safety sake I know what it is like to fall 3 stories down on my back! Glad you got the safety equipment now! It will help you on out in the long run of things! PRAYING for you and I keep thinking of what I went through in my early 40's & 50's! Your body is not ready to do any more after that is finished on you! REST AND REFRESH YOUR SELF for a weekend at least!

I'm glad you're wearing safety gear now instead of free falling. lol With Emily's injury, alot of thought has gone into what and how we approach things. We generally take for granted tasks we've done, and how no issues arose. Thank you for being keen to your followers who may duplicate your actions. My son calls you The man, the myth, the legend, because of your knowledge and heartiness. Thank you

I was glad to see you used a harness. Being on a roof anytime is dangerous, then add those big unwieldy pieces of metal and a sudden gust of wind and you are on the ground. Great job as usual. It would have been easy for you to get complacent as much time as you have spent hanging off rafters etc the last 7 years, to just forego the harness for speeds sake. I 'm Glad you did not!

As I watch the near end of this video of you, struggling, wrestling those roofing sheets up those ladders at the end of the day getting stuck all by yourself, and not a swear word ever? out of sheer frustration? please tell me that sometimes, you do sometimes let a little F word out-of-camera Shawn, that would be Ok with me and I would profoundly understand lol.

I'M CURIORS, WHEN SCREWING IN THE SCREWS INTO THE METAL ROOF PANNELS, WILL THEY LEAK? GLAD YOU TETHERED YOURSELF WHILE UP THERE! SHAWN YOU DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON FILMING THIS PROJECT! Do take care. I am an older lady, I am not as the rest of you as familiar with our new electronics. I do not apologize about it, we worked hard for you, the new generation to have a more comfortable life style, It your turn to see that we do not struggle so much with these new devices, at least once. How to order things from your site, beside having a debit card, right?

You know what happens to people who try and go it alone out on a piece of property like this (I know thats not what he is doing, just a show, they get hurt one time and it's all over. Back to the city for you permanently. Happens when preppers kids don't want to take over the homestead too, they build their whole lives and then realize it was for nothing.

Whoa, yeah alone, up on a roof, also working with sheet metal, yeah youre right, risky and dangerous! Extra, extra careful is the three words of the day! Was thinking about that screen. With smoke going up, over time that might kinda plug up a bit affecting airflow. A reason you chose that instead of Hardware cloth?

Great looking kitchen in progress and happy to see your daughter is on the mend but it will take more time to heal and also you as well to make sure the giardia is completely out of your system cyst trop and protozoa is completely gone or you can relapse. Parasitology is one of my specialty in the lab.

Is the kitchen not going to be screened against the worst mosquito time? I would have thought it would be good to screen in the chimney area before adding the roofing, so that if you decide later that you want the whole protected, you don't have to risk life and limb on the roof. What am I missing?

Wow, the cupula was an unexpected nice touch addition. I don't know how you do it, climb up on a roof like that. THAT is one thing I am deathly afraid of. When I was about 6 (I'm, 76) I saw a man fall from the roof of my folks house, I've been afraid of falling ever since.
Great job. '-)

Hello Shawn: OUTSTANDING job handling the lumber and the sheet metal. A job well done and I love to see you using the harness. Well I hope you look back after this day and say to your self I did it. Another great job and this place as usually looks great. Keep safe and see you next time.

Man, that one ladder. it's metal and can fold in half or fold outright for one long ladder. I hate that ladder. They're handy, but damn they are heavy for their size. I've had one for about 20 years and hate having to use it. Can't imagine James lugging or moving it around all day.
reply

Not a criticism but if you want to make your mosquito net last longer it's best to turn the edges over a couple of times and staple on this! More time consuming but lasts way longer, did loads of screen s for 3 houses in Spain and they stood the test of time. Love the vids!
