i think you should go parallel, dug into the ground, just make a crude retaining wall by stacking large rocks on a lean back, perhaps use that clay dense soil as a mortar, going parallel you should only have to retain the 1 side. have the door near the end, on the side to a deck half the length with a possibility of extending later, maybe even build a wood shed on the remainder of that side for more thermal mass

i think you should do parallel with the house. for your garden to cut down on your weeds lay a layer of hay down and burn it. that will kill the weeds seeds so they wont grow where the fire has been. just do it after you tilled the soil. if you till the soil you just bring up older weed seeds and allow them to grow.

Parallel would be easier. Might be nice to have sleeping areas farther from the front door. So, parendicular! Sorry no help here. Maybe a brother vs. brother beardsman challenge. Winner gets their choice. Fortnite dance off. Ha!

Cool, I worked at a small independent lumber mill as a teenager along with my father who was also a logger, and woodsman in general. It was a huge circular saw though, not a bandsaw.

I got a plan to clean and process a bunch of meat birds and get to take away some as payment. Should be fun. We did so excited from home school last year. Kids learned lots.

Poultry wire is only good for keeping chickens in. Everything that eats chickens can tear through it. Owls will chew through the poultry wire. Roof with wire cloth.
