On this cabin build we use a hand cart tomb stone hauler to move pine trees closer to the Norwood Portable Sawmill. The idea is to use as many trees, especially dead ones, as possible to make something that people can live in comfortably. The most vital tools we use is the chainsaw in combination with the sawmill. We'll also hammers, axes an saws and don't shy away from using power tools when we have enough batteries to run them in the off-grid construction. When complete the cabin can be used as a homestead for living in and cooking food, sleeping and as a jumping board to the Canadian Wilderness. We'll of course need to cut and split a lot of logs for firewood to keep the cabin warm. The design of the cabin should favor a very steeply roofed structure which will shed water and snow very easily. We also factor in a wrap-around porch to make nature more accessible. In this series we use materials around us to construct a small forest cabin. We'll use cedar, pine, ash, maple, and whatever else we can scrounge up from the 30 acres around us. The aim is to avoid using as much store bought material as possible and keep the budget reasonably low. Originally we set a budget of -1000, but that included the use of a frame from an old camper trailer. As we build, the budget will remain flexible in effort to produce a cabin that we are proud of and one that will last a long while, be comfortable, and sleep real human beings. In episode 1, we dig in our foundation from reclaimed pressure treated 6x6 posts, level, and set the lower foundation in place which will then accept the first floor of the cabin

LMAO -4: 50 mark, we saw some fear in the Beardsman's eyes and face as he nearly trampled over his brother in a wholehearted effort to get away from a falling tree: P Looks like an interesting project u guys have going. Must be nice to have a handy brother in the family eh. Cheers!

What is a real shame is that you are not treating the wood with anything. That would make the thing really durable. Treating wood will make it last a hundred years if treated correctly, no mold or parasites will touch it.

Those plantations are meant to be row thinned. taking out whole rows at a time rather than selective cutting. With row thinning, nothing gets hung up. Nice going!

For the roof y not use the metal siding on the trailer as the roof then after that is set up you could set up a rain water harvesting system
