Every postive or advise comment is growing and that is the most important thing.
It is a very positive thing that you teach your kids and they learn from mistakes. Most kids these days are tablet/computer game freaks and that is very sad in my eyes. I have learned to work with wood from i was 15 until 19 years in germany. In german terms it is: Bau und Moebeltischler. Really the old stuff and made a masterpiece which got 100 points.
One tip i have Yoda says: sometimes i would use a bit more wood glue to give them some strong connections and as another effect is it closing gabs and make it more isolated; -.
So far i see nothing wrong, ok you could do things different but so as i said it is learning and everyone has a different learning curve. Hold on the good work with your kids because they have to learn things like that and they will be thankful when they get older.

-55: 00 Not even being sarcastic, a person could invent a cure for every known disease, post it to YouTube, and INEVITABLY some people would come along and deride every aspect of it. It's easy to forget all the different places people can be in mentally when they come to your, or anyone elses videos, and sometimes a person may be in a very negative place, and one of the defects of people is we like to spread that negativity. Don't take it personally, just be grateful you're in a better place, and try being as empathetic as possible without bringing yourself down. We all need healthy boundaries, even when we only interact through a computer screen.
You're doing a very positive thing, and as weird as it might seem, actually helping people. Never forget that! All the best to your family and yourself.

I know these videos are a bit dated and while I may have taken a different approach in some areas what you built and the materials used will still be sound and standing a hundred years from now unless maybe a tree falls on it. There are buildings built 200 years ago that are still safely habitable with less quality construction. Your problem people are most likely American socialist who haven't a clue how to do anything without government approval.
Probably the main think I would have done differently is not use green wood. With that thought if you need shelter you do what you must. Green wood will still settle tight with a little tweaking along the way. You did a fine job and I'm certain many folks benefited a great deal from this project.

As I listen to you talk about those folks who are negative towards what your doing I find myself thinking about the true intelligence of the human race? How can anyone think negative for people trying to better themselves and those who follow? Society calls them haters but in reality their nothing more than jealous individuals who have nothing better to do while dreaming of living your lifestyle. Growing up in upstate NY where we camped, hunted, grew gardens, made syrup and fished I totally understand this simple lifestyle. I'm retired now living in Florida and there's not a day goes by I don't think about my past living and loving nature. Thanks for your videos and keep them coming.

I love what you guys haven't done building. Cabin it's beautiful and I love your work I love the outdoors I love fishing I never been hunting but I would love to go hunting I love the outdoors I love nature always did I never had the privilege of having my own little cabin but you never know maybe someday I will have one and enjoy myself out there in the wilderness and nature peace to you guys and God bless

Love what you guys are doing. in the olden days settlers had to learn by trial and error that is exactly what you're teaching yourselves and your kids and your following community bless all you keep up the good work I'm a 24 year veteran Carpenter and I don't think you guys are doing a bad job at all the hell with regulations just keep it safe learn as you go and teach as you learn ---

We had a sled ski like that in the 80s. Had a warning that said may exceed 60-70 miles an hour. We also had a hill called Duffy's Hill. There was always traces of blood there. Prob the craziest sledding I've ever done. The teenagers used to bring car hoods with laundry line tied to them. It was insane. I miss the 80s.

Fried hot dogs. ;) I thought my family were the only hillbillies who ate those haha. Now I want a top loader wood burning stove lol. Mine just has a front door. But it is pretty fancy because it has a blower on it that kicks on when it gets to a certain temp and kicks off when it's not hot anymore.

The building codes are to tax you. It doesn't make a better building. I want a cabin just like that. I got 6 lots up at arrowhead lake ca. I bet the building department would have a cow. I want a saw mill and a lot farther out so they will leave me alone. Love the stuff you do. thanks. R
