To get ready for our soon-to-arrive rainbow trout from Lyndon Trout Hatcheries we need to take care of a few aggressive predators including snapping turtles and large mouth bass that threaten to derail our efforts of raising trophy pond trout! POND

Don't know why they stopped the snappping turtle hunts, we're lousy with them in my area of Ontario, I'm in bruce and grey counties, especially up the peninsula. The little turtle you found is a painted turtle and they are endangered in Ontario now so glad you put him back. They don't get much bigger than that one so aren't any danger to anything larger than a minnow.

Reminded of the time I stopped to save a snapper in the middle of the andarondacks. I'm in a shirt and tie and this SOB turns on me when I wS carrying him to safety. Then when I dropped him he was on his back and I went to turn him over. He flipped on his own and came after me. ---- not equipped for the encounter. --- Now I leave the snappers to the traffic.

That is a little turtle but I guess it is Ontario, found one grabbling under a log - permanent scar. IF YOU HAVE TO HANDLE ONE- end of the tail for those little ones and hold at arm's length from the body. If you cannot carry it due to weight- dinner. And the only part that is edible is what hangs out of the shell.

Oh, those garden snails are perfectly edible! Gordon ramsay did a video catching those exact snails and cooking them, he set them aside in a lidded bucket for a week with a carrot to purge them of any pesticides. When their droppings turned orange, they were ready to cook. Check it out!

Growing up my stepdad had a pond that was infested with snappers. In early spring we'd go around the edges and break the ice. The turtles would come to surface we'd snag them since they're still slow and then shoot them. We'd butcher them then eat them.

That was a very sweet thing you said about how happy you were and that doing this reminded you what you used to do as a kid. I know the feeling. It happens occasionally and is very nice.
Thank you for your sharing. Best of luck, I really like your site.

I don-t know about in Canada but I know here in the states where I live you can get something called rotenone and put in your Lake and what it does is it takes all the oxygen out of the water so basically anything in there that breves water Will suffocate

Can-t believe someone would want to eliminate bass for stinky trout. Lol
I live in Colorado and can-t do rainbow trout. Walleye is where it-s at. But when we are fishing walleye you catch the occasional trout and I just bury them in my garden.

When you shock the water you don't kill fish you only stun them. Your friend was right- if you do it properly, you can shock the water and all the unconscious fish will float to the top and you can net out the ones you don't want

relocation farther then 1km away from animal's home is illegal in Ontario: ( might keep it off camera: ) another dumb rule made by city people who think they know how people outside of city should live.
