As a teen back in the late 50's/early '60's, I picked nightcrawlers after a hard rain, getting 35 cents a dozen. The minimum wage here in Wisconsin was 75 cents/hour at the time, so an hour of picking nightcrawlers yielded about 200 worms. About a days wages! Not being greedy, that was good enough for soda and snacks for several days!
Now in my mid-70's, I still pick a few dozen a couple times in the Spring and Summer, to put in my 3 compost beds and flower beds. And if I want to go fishing, I never have to buy any worms!
You've gotta quit giving those trout the pellets! They are tuned in on them for food - they will get the hang of live meals when hungry!

Try to feed them smaller pieces or smaller worms because trout like smaller food I recommend try to raise angel worms, anything bigger as they will struggle to try to eat the worm thats too big for them i use angel worms for big trout for my area and they work better then bigger worm like nightcrawlers and the clark the carp you have will eat worms if they are very hungry because they will go for other food thats in the pond like the algae or any larvae

The reason fish are much more likely to go after bait above or in front of them is because most of them have their eyes placed so their best vision is from directly above their heads in an arc to just slightly below their eye level. Unless they can smell bait and follow the scent trail to it, fish respond to movement in that sight pattern generally.

fish will only live in water that has the right amount of oxygen in it. Your Clark is hunting for food, if he didn't like the water, he would not be there. If your pond is spring fed, I don't think you need to worry about temps.

Ive seen people use a metal rod and rub it with a plank of wood and it creates a vibration that they hate. also there the Electric method. both methods produce so many worms its unbelievable. Happy worming m.

We had a recreational field behind my house acres or grass i couldn't find more than 4 and they were visable. Nothing like people say, go out & shine the light they're everywhere. It's a skill you have.

We used to use a red head lamp to catch nightcrawlers. I read it in an old book and it stated using red light gives you a better chance because they dont react the same as they would with white light.

Oh I used to pick worms like it was my job as a kid! We'd go through countless dozens over the spring and summer. The walleye run on Lake Nippising in the spring. Bass in Trout Lake all summer long!

If you put a pichfork in the ground and pull It back and forth the vibration makes them come out the ground. That's how we get worms for fishing in california. Earthquakes bring them up too.
