My son Holden and I search for crickets and grasshoppers in order to catch, clean, and cook them over an open fire made by primitive bow drill in the woods. Holden shows off his bow-drill skills and we both construct a delicious wild meal together. We will show you how to clean crickets for eating and how to clean and prepare grasshoppers and crickets for eating. Cleaning grasshopper and crickets for eating is really simple, just twist off the head and the intestines should come with it. Next remove the legs for sure and wings (if you want. Then just rinse the crickets and grasshoppers in water to clean off the rest of the intestines. Next boil for 3 minutes, and then fry in hot oil with spices of your choice. I used my special spice, Woodobo. Eating crickets and grasshoppers is very much like eating popcorn and takes on whatever spice you prefer. Even my wife likes eating these insects. Crickets and grasshoppers are very high in protein and may some day replace other kinds of meats. They are abundant during some times of the year and can be caught in massive quantities easily. Be safe when eating any kind of insect including grasshoppers and crickets as they often contain parasites including nematodes and other worms that can be very dangerous if ingested without proper cooking

I can't say enough about how much I love this. Holden spent a lot of time learning about the process and the tools involved, he worked incredibly hard to try to use those tools, and while it's hard sometimes when things didn't work out as you imagined it's even more difficult and admirable to accept it and turn it into a lesson. Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks, Holden, I've enjoyed a few store-bought cricket snacks but I'm hoping to try to make my own. I really really appreciate your insight.

Chris first congrats on bringing the next beardless woodsboy with you and ofcourse my personal Heroine to eat some wild grubs. Grass hoppers I was taught to boil them twice; ( complete without decapitating them, they have more flavour ) then, fry them in butter or olive oil, and then, use lemon or lime with some sea salt for better taste. Try it and film it, y'all will notice the difference. God bless y'all.

Bravo kid, he's so much braver than me! I hate crickets and grasshoppers! My cats like to bring the crickets up from my basement and rip their legs off and play with them, scares me so much to see them carrying them around XD Great job Holden! And props to dad also! I wish my father was involved in my life. Much love to both of you!

Me and my brothers agree the BEST memories from our childhood was camping. Not six flaggs, not even Christmas. Camping, which included swimming and fishing at the lake. - Best fun in the world. I'm 51 and we camped twice last month! Real camping. With tents and firewood. just sayin'.

Loved it! My brother, sister and I did this as kids on a farm in the 50's. But we didn't have Wodobo powder! Just salt and pepper. Your wife has an adventurous palate, like you. Enjoyed seeing the relationship that you and Holden have, the love is apparent. Stay safe!

I'm really proud of you being a good father, I really hoped my father taught me things when i was your sons age, Both my mother and father was busy in work and they really didn't teach me any kinda of skill which is sad. I really love what you are doing!

Great, great video! You and your son are so precious together. Great father/son bonding time! Reminded me of growing up and doing things with my Dad that at the time I thought were tough, but fun while learning about the outdoors and becoming a man.

You are a blessed man! Supportingly loving wife and child willing to go out of their comfort zone to be a part of your life no matter where it takes you. Enjoy it my friend, lap it up like gravy and biscuits. Living the life. -Deeds nit words-

Your son is very well spoken.
The old Native American way to catch crickets and grasshoppers was to walk in a concentric circle and this drives them inward. Sometimes that similarly drives mice and thus snakes too.
