So much respect to you guys for handcranking them. Matt is a master of his craft. Daytime Handcranking isn't common in florida where we fish because we have 3-5knots of current in the gulf stream and have to use a 12-15lb stick lead just to hold our baits at the bottom. This much current makes hand cranking very difficult when checking baits or moving spots. 200-300kilo swords are few and far between and often days we are prospecting several areas making 4-6 drops a day many days or even trips without a bite. The fish are mainly 50-100kilo and usually once or twice a year you get a shot at a giant in that 200-300 kilo range but is a rare occurance. They will swim up a 15lb stick lead up to the surface from the bottom in 1800 feet no problem and swim right back to the bottom after they investigate whats going on. A fish like no other.

A few years ago a buddy and I were on a tuna fishing trip on 125 ft head boat out of manasquan New Jersey. It was like 3: 00 a. m. and there was only two tuna caught on the entire boat so I decided to drop a huge squid down 300 ft with the swordfish rig with the lights and everything and managed to hook a nice swordfish. We ended up doing three laps around the boat and I think we got super lucky after about 45 minutes of fighting the fish just me and my buddy no harness I was on the real and the fish started charging straight at the boat we were on the port bow and by the time I got the line tight the fish was under the boat and came up right on the starboard side and a mate managed to get a gaff in it. It was just under 350 lbs. to this day it's the best fish I ever caught

I got a 400lb marlin to the leader when I was 12 yo in competition off Durban KZN, our comp rules meant I lost the fish cos we didnt manage to tag it and take a photo(it cut us off on the motors which cost me a prized boat with x2 350's due to this. Never thought I'd consider it a landed fish but it seems that some people do in a recreational sense. Any one wish to explain this to me please TIA. and great content btw.

I like the video but you panicking all the time and telling them what they should be doing is so annoying. Shouting 'BIG FISH BIG FISH' when its clearly not 'big' in terms of that fish. They're experienced enough to know when to and what to do at any given time. Maybe take a page out Matts book with his professionalism and calmness.

I don't know how to fix my whole life and from all the people I've talked to you it's the swordfish look at the size of a swordfish tail in comparison to its body and then look at a Marlin or any other fish we had been spoiled multiple times by giant swordfish they would literally spool our rods and there was nothing we could do

46 seconds the fish head in the back of the boat, looks like something huge ate it cause I only saw the head and no body. If so that is one big predator, cause the head of that swordfish was massive, maybe the camera does the fish the same as humans and adds pounds and makes it look bigger then actually is.

there is no stopping a big goliath, I had the experience of fishing a penn 80, with max drag & the guide applying hand pressure to the line with gloves, and we dragged the 50 lb anchor 100 yards into the reef before the grouper got the 300 lb test across the reef and broke us off.

I like Matt’s style. Humble fisherman that knows what to do & what can happen even when you’re the best out there. No naming what the fish is, no calling out the weight, you can’t speak on a fish you haven’t landed yet, that’s how you put bad luck on it.

Hi everyone. Yeah there's a reason he's never pulled a magnificent creature up onto his boat like that. I could tell the skipper didn't really dig your 'call' but I guess your cash is what counts and not the experience it gave you. I am an angler by the way

I’ve caught a tuna and a small marlin and many sharks. Never a sword. But if i had a vote, i’d say a giant tuna is pound for pound, the bruiser of the ocean. They are like a torpedo. And they dont quit. All the way to the surface.
