GIANT Speckled Trout- Indian River Lagoon Flats Fishing

I have been inshore wade fishing the Indian river lagoon around Ft. Pierce and Stuart for about a year now. This was my first encounter with a gator speckled trout (sea trout. These are smart, elusive and aggressive fish that stalk and landing them generally ends with heartbreak as they have soft mouthes and spit hooks very easily. This was a BIG trout on a topwater lure, but i'm still after that GIANT 30+ inch fanged monster.

You guys got into some good ole, down-home, Gulf South Yellow Mouth Brackish Bay & Bayou Busters! When we hunted, and I say hunted, not fished for because that's what you had to do in order to find these veracious saltwater predators, it was the yellow mouth we searched for! For some reason when Speckled Trout reach a certain level of maturity, their mouth turns yellow, and that's what we were constantly searching for in our youth in Southeast Louisiana.
In fact, we dropped the technical name, and just started referring to them as Yellow Mouths, everyone knew what we were referring to, and it's still that way for my friends and I to this day!
Great Video!

the place where you fish i highly reccomend mirrolure suspended twitch baits, think you would outfish your topwater neighbors, especially because those thirty plus fish dont always like to spend energy to crash surface baits, still know peoplethats all they fish because they like the visual stimulation me i like drag time and bowed rods

Very nice trout! Braid is generally not very good for topwater speckled trout fishing. The best gator trout fisherman I know throw Super Spooks on 14-17lb mono on baitcasting gear. You'll double or triple your hookup/landing ratio using mono and light drags. tight lines!

still get 4to7 weeks between halloween and christmass specks migrate into south jersey bays six to eight pounders every tide, few fish a season ten to fourteen lbs, they are the fattest specks ive ever seen, problem is its a ninety minute window, sometimes not during daylight

You can get bigs ones like that off the south side of Redington pier, use to use a balsa wood float and select shrimp, and free float the shrimp about 50 yards out to the grass flats on the south side, very large specs there

Was fishing back side at Sebastian wading, saw a dark figure approach out of the corner of my eye, I went backwards into the mangrove and passed a turd in my pants. It was a Manatee. lol

Is that the tsunami reel? I see why your using it for wade fishing since it supposedly can take on water? Have you ever reviewed this reel?
Interested on your input on the reel

Those things are not trout, no way, no how. Kinda like the guy here who shot a nice bull Elk thinking it was a big Mule deer. Nice fish no doubt but it ain't no kind of Trout.

Baffin Bay just south of Corpus Christi, Tx is where you need to go to get your 30 inch trout. Ive caught 2 that were 30 inches. Best speckled trout fishing in the world here

Go back out and use the gold fleck doa shrimp in the 4 and 3 and I bet you you will catch more. Even under a popping cork do it both ways and I bet you will have a blast.
