This is a video I have been so excited to make! Brook's brother told us about a spot where he caught mantis shrimp in the past and we finally got around to catching these CRAZY Creatures! Mantis Shrimp can be divided into two categories, the spear type and the club type. The ones we caught have spear like arms they use to capture prey. We used a little spear to capture these mantis shrimp, but other people use traps to catch mantis shrimp. I want to get back out there and catch more of these guys, if you know any spots and want to film a video reach out to me via email

Ill bet those are great bait, but if theyre anything like the much smaller ghost shrimp in San Diego, their soft bodies wont stick to the hook well, but live or cut up freshly dead ones is candy for pretty much anything that swims by. We use pumps made out of PVC pipes to literally suck the shrimp out of their holes, way easier than the bait and spear procedure, not sure if it would work on those monster shrimp you have out there though, it might mangle them or rip them apart. We also have the hammer type mantis shrimp out here, but I only have ever seen one, caught at a pier.

LOVE your videos, and just purchased a Dexter knife and about 100 worth of Mustad hooks using your discount codes. Thanks! A recommendation: When preparing any sort of prawn/shrimp, save ALL the shells, legs, heads, etc. Put those in to some boiling water for a few hours and render down until you get a rich shrimp stock. Add a splash of white wine, a touch of tomato paste, and some heavy cream. White pepper and salt to taste. You can use a roux or corn starch to thicken if you prefer. Voila, shrimp bisque.

One of my all time fav seafood my grandma used to prepare. I remember, It was hard to peel them without getting poke. The way we do it, we hold the tail and pull on the shell closest to the tail and whole thing comes off. IMO, the natural flavor of mantis shrimp is better than lobster.

We used to eat these in Spain all the time. Best way to cook is to keep them alive. Quick boil in water same salinity as the ocean (a lot of salt. Put them in on ice immediately and eat them cold. Meat is much more firm and tastes delicious!

If there's one species you would die to be reincarnated as THIS is the very species! The Peacock can see like no other(supposedly heightened color, FLIR, aura. This species of creature is purely BAD-ASS!
