This revisit of the NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB GPU in 2021 benchmarks the card in modern and old games alike. This includes tests vs. the 10-series, 20-series, and helps with used vs. new GPUs. The NVIDIA GTX 1060 launched in many variations, including the GTX 1060 6GB, 3GB, 5GB, 6GB 9Gbps, GDDR5X model, laptop model, and maybe some that we're forgetting. This was easily the most SKU-heavy card NVIDIA has made in recent history. The GTX 1060 also remains among the most popular video cards in use even today, as evidenced by Steam's Hardware Survey. Our GTX 1060 revisit runs benchmarks from our 2021 test suite to evaluate how the card performs today, potentially useful for buyers of used GPUs or for those trying to determine whether it's time to upgrade. You'll get a good look at how the 1060 does today vs. the RTX 3060, 2060, AMD RX 6800 & 5700 XT, the 3070, and used options, like the GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti. Peter: I have a 1060 and it did not struggle at all with cyberpunk... It does struggle in Warzone... Singleplayer games are not competitive and frankly should not be used for benching. I get that you want to get the numbers but in singleplayer games, you can still play at 30fps and have fun. Try that in multiplayer and things go down the drain quickly...

I still remember the time when I bought the 1060 3GB, since I don't want to pay 25% extra price for only 10% performance increase, especially at these low FPS ranges (50 -> 55 isn't a meaningful change).
I also remember that was around when I started watching GN videos. I actually held some grudge initially because I remember Steve criticizing the value and existence of the 3GB version in the review, but I also realized that he was probably looking at different prices than what I was seeing, and you can't talk about value without their respective prices at that very point in time.
I am going to part with my 1060 3GB this weekend, gonna help a friend build a home office PC. Time definitely flies.

My brother wanted to buy an RTX2080 and i said it's probably not a good idea to pay early adopters tax for a card with new tech. He went ahead and bought one anyway. Then the 3000 series comes out and gives much better value and can get a 3070 that beats his card for 300 less. Great! I thought, then maybe this year I will finally go for a full system upgrade and upgrade my 3770K/GTX1060 system.
Yeah.........Maybe 2022! lol

I have to say I was constantly amazed with how well my 1060 3GB performed even with Assetto Corsa maxed out in Custom Shaders Patch (far more graphically intensive than the original game) and it would still give over 40fps at 4k. Managing to get a 3070 Founders Edition for MSRP was too good an offer to refuse, though. Fare thee well, 1060, gone on to another gamer who will still love playing on it for a good while.

I'm still on a ASUS 1060. And mine overclocks pretty decently too, so there is about a 5+% or so uplift there. Oddly ASUS didn't bother with memory cooling on it, and memory overclocks go from stable to unstable as the card heats up over time. Going to pick up a few extruded aluminum heatsinks for the GDDR5 as there is enough room under the main core heat sink.

If you see the most played games in steam; 1. Csgo 2. Dota2 3.Pubg 4. Apex, the 1060 kills this game. 1060 can run 120+ fps at competetive settings which you can play at overclock monitor at 75hz, this is a dream for budget gamers. This is why 1060 is very relevant to this day because Top games in steam still exist.

the 1060 was also a substantial jump in price over 960, I wonder if the ecorp people are just like oh yeah these kids will definitely find a better job for the new card so lets adjust pricing
I mean they get a raise every quarter even if the stock is down, so its only fair thats their way of thinking

Dust off that FX-8350 & RX-480 combo you have sitting in your closet & see how badly it stacks against modern architecture. Then PRICE that modern system at the inflated rates, and include the likelihood of obtaining those parts? Maybe then people will start to get the picture about e-waste...

Man I am soooo glad I picked up a used 1070 in December. I wish I had just kept my 2080 FE instead of returning with all of 2 days left out of the 30 you're allotted to return by when I heard what the 3080 MSRP was going to be. But at least I'm still not stuck back with my GTX 660.

I have a 1060 (the short version) and im fine with the performance, Just not the Noise. One of the main reasons i want a new card, is so i can watercool it to quiet it down. And because a couple games will use that power. But its not critical i upgrade right now.
