We're talking about AMD's major overhaul to BIOS -- arriving in 2026 -- as the company moves to open source solutions. Additionally, rumors indicate a possible 16GB NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti. If true, that'd be a confusing but demanded move into increased capacity despite the 4070's 12GB capacity. Additionally, OCCT is launching its major version 12 overhaul, ASUS fails to get it, and Noctua is delaying the NH-D15.

There's plenty of even current games that require MORE than 8GB VRAM for even MEDIUM settings with Ray tracing, like:
Resident Evil 4,
Hogwarts Legacy,
The Callisto Protocol,
A Plague Tale Requiem,
Etc
And if you want to play these games at 1440p ultimate settings, or 4K, then 16GB is the entry point for acceptable new GPUs. Game developers are saying that new games, even later THIS year, will need at least 12GB to run even 1080p at just medium settings, which is entry level, without any future proofing, so a poor investment.
NVidia needs to fix their prices and release refreshed VRAM versions of their existing RTX 4000 cards:
4090 999 -24GB VRAM
4080Ti 899 -24GB VRAM version
4080 799 -16GB VRAM
4070Ti 699 -16GB VRAM version
4070 599 -16GB VRAM version
4060Ti 499 -16GB VRAM version
4060 399 -16GB VRAM version
4050Ti 299 -12GB VRAM version
4050 199 - 12GB VRAM version
If they still want a huge profit margin flagship GPU, for people willing to pay for the very best, they could release a new RTX4090Ti / titan with 48GB VRAM, display port 2.1 & PCIe5 for something like 2,000.
This pricing would be consistent with the previous pricing, even taking into account the cost of living inflation.
They should not charge over 200 for ANY GPU with 8GB VRAM. Buying a GPU with less than 16GB VRAM in 2023 is buying a short shelf life, already showing obsolescence in some recent triple A games, graphics card!

I would VERY much love to see nVidia, AMD and Intel move to open source for their video card drivers. There really should be no trade secrets in a driver. There can be, I know. But if you are doing something in silicon that is a secret then how is it still a secret when your bios can easily be disassembled. Also, it would make it possible to port their drivers to other operating systems so that Windows doesn't have such a lock on PCs. Linux performance, for example, would be GREATLY improved with nVidia cards which could even result in more sales. But trying to convince corporate bean counters of this is nearly impossible. They have a huge IBM legacy NIH (not invented here) problem still. For some reason corporate bean counters always think you're trying to rip them off. Nope, just want BETTER, more reliable and PORTABLE video drivers.
It may even be possible to one day create a merged driver that can run ANY video card. I know that's a pipe dream. But I think it's doable. I've written enough drivers to know that you can make almost anything table driven. And although the silicon is VERY different, what they do isn't. So, the commonalities must be mergable at least. Microsoft wouldn't want portable drivers. But the computing public would benefit. If you want to game, Windows is it for many of us. I hate that. I should be able to get the most out of my hardware investment no matter what OS I want to run. (Are you listening Apple?)

you think ASUS is doing to fix the problem. NO ASUS LIED MANY MANY MANY TIMES OVERand then like EVGA FILED A DEFORCE WITH NVIDIA this time JAYTWOCENTS FILE A DEFORCE WITH ASUS I was hopping that will be enough to give ASUS a SOCK of there LIVES that did not happen. ASUS is got the WORST PUBLIC RELATION like CORSAIR and GIGABYTE I keep tealking about the SOLTUIOON thgat every one must follow and the soultion is SIMPLE ALL OF USA MUIST STOP BUYING ASUS, GIOGABYTE and CORSAIR STOP BUYING then they go OUT OF BUSINESS like EAGLEMOSS LTD, RADIO SHACK FW WOOLWORTH . the SULTION IS DO NOT BUY and there is a RED ALERT ON MSI is 3 year service dose not start on the date on the sales slip. its 3 YEARS is THE DATE OF NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH lets say buy a NEW MSI Z980 is today then wait 4 2026 02 2027 go bo buy it. and its some how DOA that happends then call MSI sorry report from MSI NO SERVICE. ONE YEAR OVER THE TIME LIMIT'

Maybe moving forward, you have a point and reviewers should only review products according to the specification sheet and what is covered under warranty. Thus testing and representing the products in a fair light where customers are afforded the protections they look for and expect from companies. If any of these companies are going to command ever increasing amounts of money for these things it should be covered and if not then it should be left out representing the product. It makes testing and the performance provided to consumers easy to understand what they want and still offers expected protections and guarantees that people have come to expect and i believe some governmental bodies in the world actually require of business' offering products to their citizenry

5:00 As someone who runs a gamedev studio, I appreciate you saying this. Games media is rife with this crap. People often won't report on anything unless you sweeten the deal for them even though it's literally their jobs to report on games. Not to say they HAVE to report on OUR games, but it just never rubbed me the right way how many media outlets treat it like some sort of handshake has to occur or else they'll withhold coverage of your product as punishment. In games media, it feels like it's 99% quid pro quo trash and not a lot of people who just want to tell the public about interesting games.
Since we refuse to play ball, this usually means our games aren't covered by anyone. But, I sleep great.

I suspect Nvidia was already planning two Vram tiers for the 4060, as with the 3060.
Hell, the skeptical part of me might think the whole hubub was planned to get people talking about the release and then manipulating the consumers in being happier with the product and the company.
...But who knows, one might think they would have just made the 4070 better. Unless their research showed it would take too many sales from the 4080.
(which wouldn't surprise me and they are obviously free to design and market their products to maximize profits, even if it is not as beneficial for the consumer. ...Just so long as it doesn't actually harm them).

I'm not defending ASUS here, however within the bounds of journalism you can have on record conversations that are not broadcast or completely divulged.
It does increase the difficulty in folks trusting you, but ... that being said everything you do shows your trustworthiness. So as long as they would have agreed to recording it, you kind of have done your job very very well.
I mean, how would one talk about their confirmed information from sources that don't want to be named?
But, yeah, it's all horrid, and ugh.

#ASUS
I think you need to just get up. Brush the dirt off. Get people on camera with audio and release a defenceable statement. It doesn't matter if it's actually good or actually bad. A statement is a statement and something like a damaged product requires a bit of transparency. No one is asking you to eat doodoo, no one expects good news. Just drop a reasonable public statement, hopefully with a decent discussion with GN and/or another outlet and be done with this and move on.
Or get out of the game.

Oooh. The 7600 looks promising for upgrading one of my older PCs... perhaps when next gen comes out and these start selling for less than I paid to build my entire last computer...
Also, I will probably never purchase an MSI product again. Even their peripherals are considered insecure, as bad actors likely now have the DRIVER signing key too.
All it takes is them to create a malicious driver and send it to Windows Update, and everyone who connects, say, an MSI mouse, is suddenly hacked.

10:20 Hey, that's my GPU XD! Fun fact, it was so thick I had to dismount the kaleidoscope part of it, otherwise it would be covering ALL of the PCIe slots on my ATX motherboard, including the bottom one where my Elgato HD 4K Mk.2 capture card was supposed to go... Yeah, card got Frankensteined right out of the box, but none of the online configurators I tired when ordering my parts accounted for the exceptional thiccness of this 4070Ti so I assumed enough clearance.

What ASUS should have said
(1) Yes Steve - film anything you want. We f%caked up and we will eat our humble pie.
(2) Yes, we rushed out the new mobos without proper testing. We are sorry and we will eventually release new boards which work properly.
(3) Yes, we will honour the warranty of ALL faulty new mobos for the new amd cpus.
IF Asus said all of this, then in my eyes they would redeem their credibility. They haven t. Jay is right.

Nvidia again lol.
Gtx1060 3/5/6 Gb cards.
Yes a 5Gb card lol.
Or
Gtx 1050 with 2 and 3Gb cards
Funny thing .
A gtx 1050ti can handel more game with lesser fps than a gtx 1060 3Gb but it fit in the memory lol
A lot off people have problems with gtx 1060 3Gb with low memory error in a game.
Personal i go for the most memory card today .
And that will be the a 16Gb card i do years for i replace it .

After ASUS refused to help me for about 2 months with my ASUS Crosshair Extreme X670E and the 7950x3D, all of a sudden they want to help me fix my board. Pretty much telling me in the beginning you have a bios that's Beta and we can't help you. After your video and others. Now they're offering a RMA to see what happened to it blah blah blah only after I bought a different board from another manufacturer. They can get bent!

Can we agree to make the ASUS slogan for those who dare and also ROG certified a meme?
I have an ASUS motherboard and GPU but I Always hated especially that silly the ROD certified Logo on LIAN LI cases
To be fair the For those who dare Slogans all over the Motherboard make sense now in light of the factory overvoltage defect ... so it was obviously meant as a warning not to buy this crap and I just missunderstood

I sure hope AMD's OpenSIL is made fully open source, and ASAP, because a deadline of 2026 sounds like made in house under secrecy, whereas if open sourced from the get go it may be ready to roll much earlier ( 2024) if they play well with the FOSS community, they will show their appreciation by gitten' er' done and making it good! It could also be another shining example of why FOSS is better for everyone.
