The AMD Ryzen R3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X had their review embargoes lifted today, with the R3 3100 and R3 3300X release date on May 21, 2020. Intel s 10-series desktop CPUs (Comet Lake) will release one day before, on May 20, 2020, and that will include the Core i9-10900K, Core i7-10700K, Core i5-10600K, and Core i3 10300. For now, the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 most directly competes against AMD s other products, like the rarely available AMD R5 1600 AF and the same-day launched AMD R3 3300X, priced at 20 more but significantly improved in some aspects, like CCX-to-CCX latency. We ll explore that in a different video that posts a few hours from now. The Intel i3-9100F is worth mention, as is Intel s Core i7-7700K and 7700K OC. We included benchmarks of the i7-7700K vs. AMD R3 3100 for easy reference. This follows-up our benchmarks of the best budget CPUs in 2020 and updates its data tables. I've been running intel since the 2600k, then the 3770k, then the 7700k. I've defended intel against AMD for years when it came to gaming. Made plenty of very embarrassing comments and talked shit to a lot of people. This video is the straw that broke the camel's back. I have seen the light. My wallet hasn't yet though! I needed to see the 7700k to be decisively beaten, even when overclocked to 5.1ghz. Thanks GN. This one was special to me personally. Edit: If anyone reading this remembers my name at all(I said a lot of awful shit across multiple videos for years to AMD fans) I'm sorry for being an asshole and I was trying to justify my purchase.

So Essentially, the R3 3100 and 3300X Confirm what we all suspected: Performance for Ryzen Degrades to the Latency between CCXs. If AMD can take these findings and continue to apply it to Future CPUs like Zen 4 and More, they could have the performance crown for Years to Come. Optimization is another thing, but almost every consumer knows the chokehold Intel has on the Software Optimization Department. AMD maybe the king of the CPU Market right now, but additional work is needed from AMD to ensure a long reign at the top.

I would love to see the R3 3100 vs like a sandy bridge CPU (I5 2400 or i7 2600), this is more than likely the user, that will be looking to step up to ryzen. Most people running these CPU's (like me) are always looking for bang for the buck. I built my current computer (i5 2400 optiplex), because i could do it for under 300.00. I'm currently building a R5 1600 AF, but if i were to buy right now (Overpriced scalper sellers due to human malware effecting supply), the 3100 would probably be my choice, to buy into the platform

Long long ago I got a 4670k for > 200 after a lot of research. I5 is enough, 4 cores is great was the mantra. I figured a few years of decent performance, especially with that ludicrous 4.5 GHz overclock, before a new budget chip at stock speed made my chip look like trash. Slowly the stutters slipped into bigger games, even as I upgraded my GPU... In hindsight it s clear that chip was an awesome choice, but Intel never improved enough to make me upgrade. RIP INTEL

I helped my friend build a PC in January 2017. I implored him to wait a few months for Zen to drop, but he really wanted to build right then and there. It felt so terrible to recommend an i5 6500, but it was the only decent choice in his budget. Pretty awesome that what was the best mainstream performance back then is now a 100 budget option. Thank you AMD for making the market competitive again...but also screw you for taking nearly 10 years to do it.

As an owner of an dual cpu system ( 2x(4core 8thread) ) I can tell you that many new games benefit when disabling numa nodes (making the CPUs register as one) in both frametimes aswell as framerate. The only game that benefits from separating the CPUs into numa nodes is fallout 76, this being a very latency sensitive game and becomes playable without microstutters.

I hope the R3 3100 and 3300x can stop the strange idea some AMD fan have, that is, 4 core 8 thread are no longer relevant. If they see their favorite company pushing 4c8t product on their latest architecture, perhaps some of them will be more open to honest discussion on cpu core/thread gaming requirement?

Thanks for the review, Steve! Super helpful. Regarding Ryzen 3100-3300x, I can't understand why anyone would buy it when you can get 1600af for less than 100 or aftermarket 2600 for the same 100. Seems like they are pretty overpriced. 3100 should be 75 tops.

So amd is coming out with new chips for low end gamers like 100 to 150 what about higher end are they coming out with all new chips like new 3900x or they keeping everything just new lower end Intel is doing all of em i3 all the way up

As an Intel tribalist myself, seeing Intel getting spanked so badly and constantly makes me excited to see what the future of the semiconductor industry holds. So ready for new tech and not just another lame refresh!!!
