Microsoft finally pushed me to start transitioning over to Linux. I setup Manjaro with KDE desktop and TLP power management on my laptop and have managed to get it to do everything that I did with windows and more (like search actually works). I do not use Adobe products so I cannot comment on that unfortunately. Overall I have been very impressed with Manjaro, pretty much everything that I have installed has just worked basically the same as windows. It took me about a week to get everything setup, but other then a minor bluetooth issue most of that time was just configuring KDE to function a more like windows. I even got steam up and running with no issues and a decent amount of games seem to work, there is a really good Microsoft office clone, and the other software that I use on my laptop works in Linux. I am not quite ready to do the same with my home workstation/gaming PC mostly because linux game support is still a good bit behind windows. But I am considering doing a daul boot setup on my PC using Manjaro for anything important and windows only for gaming and any windows only software.

Phones have been abusing safety photos for years now. They take photos randomly (mostly on turning them on and off) so one can see the face of the person who's opening your phone. Instead of that security feature, you get targeted advertising featured places where you open your phone. It's not the only thing spying on your phone either. Your browser does it. Your location is used. Practically every feature is used for targeted advertising and for analyzing and predicting your behavior. Especially your buying patterns. Take any shopping service. Sane thing. They do it all in your interest so it is easier for you. But those algorithms are promoting wasting money on things that you do not really need. All for profits. Theirs not yours. Now you think operating systems made by commercial companies are any different The thing you can do is control your urges and your money. Get things you need and that are going to make you happy. Do not buy anything offered from this advertising, for example

As for the CoPilot Plus thing, I'm not worried about it and it's not going to make me switch to Linux, First of all it's only available on CoPilot Plus and CoPilot plus requires a device with an ARM-based CPU with NPU extensions. Desktop Workstation and Gaming PC's do not run ARM-based CPU's and they don't have an NPU (yet). In other words the whole ReCall feature is being blown out of proportion by smaller TechTubers who are Anti-Microsoft, AND they have their reason to be Anti-Microsoft, but using ReCall to scare and fearmonger Windows Users happy with their Windows gaming desktops is a bit disingenuous to me.
And for you disingenuous jokers out there, no, the next Windows 11 update isn't going to magically install an NPU (a physical chip is needed for that) on your Gaming PC and start recording everything you do. Nice Try. The worst you'll get is BitLocker being auto-enabled on your main SSD (there's already a workaround for that too).

The discussion surrounding the Recall feature is very strange. I've seen people defend it by saying something along the lines of it's coming anyway so better get used to it now ... as if that is an appropriate response. Also some people focusing on the fact that you can disable it as if Microsoft does not have a history of turning settings back on during an update and not telling the user.
Sorry, but Microsoft is one of the last companies I'd trust with something like this. I hope this whole OS-level assistive AI thing ends up fizzling out. The way Microsoft handles Windows these days is so annoying. I've literally paid for a license for Windows 11 because I missed the upgrade window and I'm still being treated like a product - instead of being treated like a customer. I did not expect to miss the old Microsoft. They were still bad, but not nearly as much as they are now.

Microsoft is telling a lie of omission by stating that its all stored locally. Okay, even taking them at their word, what does it matter if you can just feed the prompt questions, and get answers back Recall doesn't have to exfiltrate any screenshots, it can just send back the AIs search results for whatever they want to know. First it'll be a new invasive way of serving targeted ads, but just wait, there will be a protect the children type of push to have the AI watch for anything you do. Suddenly private browsers, vpns, etc wont matter because interested parties can just have Microsoft ask the AI hey AI, does this person support A, are they critical of B Have they talked to someone about C or accessed banned app/media D In our dirtbag society in a closed source OS, this tech can't exist without being abused

I am very noise sensitive and I LOVE the idea of using Noctua's NF-A12x25 fans for home use. I think you guys vastly over emphasized the price, with inflation and the GARBAGE that comes out of China recently the price really isn't that bad. Keep in mind that we have probably seen an effective doubling of costs since before the lockdown (because of/result of the US literally doubling the $ supply etc.) $100 for a mount a NF-A12x25 fan (which costs $30-$40 by itself), for something that will run for DECADES nonstop is NOT overpriced. I have been using NF-A12x25 fans for years now, and not had a SINGLE issue with any of them, I will continue to exclusively use Noctua's products for my computers (and probably electronics too now) for the rest of my life.

Would love to see a deep dive with Wendell on the Epyc desktop CPUs. I'd be interested to see if they're better value for money than the usual core i or Ryzen models for CPU-heavy productivity tasks. On that note (and this is just a selfish wish): if there's ever a way to introduce a music production benchmark into the test suite, I'd be all over that. Something like how long do different CPUs take for offline render of a pre-defined project in a representative DAW (could be the free and excellent Reaper). How many plugins and virtual intstruments can I load until I have to increase buffer size / system latency is another interesting candidate but might be a bit harder to implement in a consistent and semi-automated way.

On Recall, the business I work for has put together a program for my team to prevent Recall ever reaching business machines in an active state, as the business deals with exclusively propriatary and copyrighted content, even governmental content... Recall has to be deployed in a disabled state and offer businesses the option of not allowing it from launch.
Microsoft treating businesses like home users is getting mighty tiresome. (pro isnt professional anymore, its home plus), even enterprise SKU windows is subject to the bloatware of Home edition... which is frankly beyond understanding.

I don't rely on their pin work, which is... shoddy at best. I make my own custom wiring pin work using NOS headers from the older days. If it fits, i use the equivalent, if it doesn't i just run a custom 3D printed (ceramic) pin support to a custom cable. Cannot be bothered to deal with their cheapy garbo. And by they, i mean, every manufacturer, who is unwilling to spend the money we give them to have modern, up date and demand mating surfaces. This voids warranty, but as seen with stuff like assus, warranty is only useful as toilet paper... in dire and extreme circumstances.

I'm not sure I agree with the Recall paranoia. There are numerous things to criticize about Microsoft and Windows but this seems unwarranted at this point.
If they start doing sleazy things like re-enabling it automatically, sending data about it to their servers, etc. THEN it would be time to protest and/or migrate to a different OS.
Also, I don't see the security problems. Because stepping away from your computer without locking it has been an absolute no-no for decades now. And if somebody steals it - you use BitLocker anyway. Right

I'm happy I switched to Fedora a couple months back.
Honestly gaming performance is great and it's a lot more stable than windows ever will be.
There are only a couple drawbacks:
- VR gaming is basically pretty much unsupported (there is ALVR but I couldn't get it working)
- Some multiplayer competitive games use unsupported versions of anticheat (like for example R6 Siege)
For everything else, honestly you'll have a way nicer experience on Linux with no bloat, no ads, no BSODs, and no nonsense.

Windows Privacy Concerns lol That's always been a concern of mine ever since they started integrating Windows Defender and Internet Exploder/MS Edge. All Chromium based browsers are very susceptible to being hacked and injected with malware, spyware and viruses. We should be given total control of every aspect of windows OS. If we decide that Windows defender or MS Edge is not for us, we should have the ability to pertinently remove them without having to jump through several hoops.

As a gamer, I've stuck with Windows (and DOS before that) for decades. Windows 10 looks like it may be the last Windows version I ever run on my personal PC, and while I've dabbled with it before, for the first time I'm seriously considering moving to Linux. I was already fed up with many of the decisions they've made with Windows 11, but Recall is the last straw. Even if it's limited to specific PC's right now, that doesn't mean they won't push it to every computer down the road.

Ziff-Davis at one time was a major publisher in the science-fiction field.
MSI: I expect MSI has also made their Claw so that it trashes your Linux dual-boot any time you do a firmware update (if they even allow you to run Linux on it).
Not so much Home' usage, but Noctua was helpful when I was looking for a replacement fan for the mascot costume at my daughter's high school (they have a nice 5v 80mm fan that comes with a USB harness).

To be honest, I'd be more concern about Apple's Airtag than Window's recall feature, some stalker may slip it into someone's backpack, worse if they don't have an iPhone to alert. The only real concern about Window's recall feature is two party consent legal issue if someone on the other end of Zoom meeting didn't consent to being recorded, but we can also record without consent with OBS anyway.

Wasn't the issue with the 12vhpwr cable for specifically the 4090s
I bought an msi 4070ti and had also tried a 4070 before that with the 12vhpwr cable and had no issues so far.
Unrelated but my i9 14900kf on the other hand, nothing but issues, I want to die inside after purchasing it almost 3 months ago and still failing to dial it in stably and getting advertised speeds.
Intel sucks! lol

Don't know what HOME stands for, but when i moved into my home (19 years ago) I wanted to improve the air flow of my buitl-in entertainment center. So i grabbed a 3 hole saw, two Thermaltake Silent CAT A2329 fans, a 5.25 fan controller, and a molex 120V brick adapter. Those fans have been running non-stop for about 18 years. Really helped exhaust the heat from my PS3 back in the day.

I dont know why everyone is shocked at MS sabotaging W11... They are just following their cadence of shit-good-shit-good for version of Windows OS. Just think about it XP-Vista-W7-W8-W10-W11 or good-shit-good-shit-good-and now we need a shit OS, but W11 was shaping up to be an improved version of W10. MS obviously couldn't let that happen. So, they just blew it up.

Noctua: all I want and all I have ever wanted in recent years from them is a 140 version of the NF-A12x25 PWM ... so what I would assume would be called the NF-A14x25 PWM, for use with my NH-D15 ... and I want it in black. Steve is right, if you plan so fervently for perfection, you just dont sell product. They teased this fan years ago, its time to just put it out.

I haven't read PC Gamer nor MaximumPC or any other same-type magazines in years because they all turned into political activists and I tire of that. Also their lack of integrity when it comes to Journalism burned me.
So IGN buying Gamer Network is a Nothing of value was lost situation for me. Won't be surprised when it happens to Future Publishing next.
