Waste of silicon that could be used for something else in AMD's line-up. Uh... not really... The chiplets are 8 cores each. The 3600/X/XT all have two cores tested as either defective or insufficient performance and are disabled. These are effectively throw aways; discount bin CPUs. Same can be said of the 3900X/XT since it has two chiplets each with two cores disabled for the same reason. Unless you go 16-core, the best-of-the-best per-core performance will be on the 3800XT now, which is getting priced (MSRP) same as the 3800X but doesn't come with a stock cooler. This is a slight refresh on the lithography of the CPU that really only benefits AMD's production either in costs or potential performance or both. Ideally the XTs would just replace the production of the Xs, but Ryzen 4000 is too soon coming. It exists because of production efficiency improvements; however briefly. Does it make sense to upgrade to it? No. Right now though, it is the best median average single-core performance CPU from AMD under 500. So for gaming, and/or streaming; it makes sense... it has purpose. Building a new streaming PC? Hard to recommend a different CPU if you don't get an nVidia card. Why wouldn't you? Lots of people have a strong personal bias against nVidia for a lot of anti-consumer business practices and refuse to support them. So... H.264 encoding on the CPU just works so nicely. I do wish we could stream with H.265 encoding though...

This is the problem with AMD pricing they reduce pricing in countries like USA but not everywhere else. In India the 3600 is 200 dollars + Indian tax not 160 + Indian tax. This means yes the xt cpus in India are actually just as expensive as x. The point of AMD CPUs usually going on sale and being priced lower than msrp does not matter as they sell for US msrp price + Indian tax just like Intel CPUs. This means the xt CPUs are actually good in India as for us the 3900x is priced way more than the 3800xt. I get the idea of only using US pricing as most of your audience are living in US and the USD is the standard for the whole world. But looking at just US pricing does not tell the full story in some countries like India or countries where the non xt models are not discounted and are at the same price as the x models. And I get that the xt models don't add anything and you should just get 3700x. But if the 3900x and 3900xt are the same price in India why not go for the xt?

Hello the only true difference you can see at XT Cpus you can get higher Overclock than the X version, in gaming you will not see any improved for stock and Overclock Xt version cause all Ryzen 3000 series have the same 70ns memory latency with 3600mhz Memory kit in whole lineup of 3000 series (except 3100) , and that's is the most important difference on Gaming against Intel who have 45-55ns on latency Memory.
So high Overclock (4.5/4.6ghz) on Xt series you can get performance only in productivity workloads and benchmark tools but in gaming you will get nothing .
the only good thing will need to see from the reviewers if the infinity fabric on this XT version can get the 2000mhz cause many peoples said before Amd launching the XT version will be with better infinity fabric speeds, if not true will be the same performance in gaming with X versions .

I don't know what the % are of ppl that build their own PC for productivity AND gaming, but i'd assume that most of those who want productivity will just get something from a vendor, for reasons. Or a Mac. My honest guess is most PC builders just care about games which are not DOTA. I may be wrong.
I really find these reviews confusing. There is no such thing as Master of everything in CPU . Some are good for gaming, some for productivity. I suggest that you make it clear if they're good for games or productivity, not both. It's not relevant if a CPU can run a game X at 500fps but sucks at everything else. For that, i'd build two, or let go of games. Or productivity. The comparison list also makes it confusing. There are graphs of 30+ CPU, most of which no one cares about, or ever heard of.

Ok yeah I guess this one was never really viable as you can get the 3900X or now the 3900XT. There will be no more 3900X they are a limited number and this is a replacement. The more time passes, the more CPUs exist - in 2 months all will be XT at a continually dropping price. If you are going to upgrade CPU, wait for XT to drop in price or buy whatever is highest clocks per money you are willing to spent that is available now. XT is a replacement more core frequency for same price, this has to be done as silicone is improved and it needs to be relabled, otherwise you will get slightly different performances on the same CPU, based on date it was made, creating confusion and breaking determinant uniqueness of specs.

I think the reason behind this XT-series launch is marketing. Next gen will probably have this same XT-naming as GPUs, so there will not be 4700 and 4700X, but 4700 and 4700XT just as there is 5700 and 5700XT GPUs. Second marketing thing is that launches, even small ones give you free publicity and reviewers who review these products, will likely mention Ryzen 4000-series. Also, XT series might have a better yield due to some tweaking, making it cheaper to produce and I'd really like to see how far it can be pushed with higher IF-clocks and fast RAM. According to another test site these can do 1900MHz IF, but can they go even higher.

GN, could you compare some AMD and Intel CPUs at same core/thread count and clock frequencies? I can't believe I haven't noticed before now, but latest gen Ryzen beats Intel in practically all production benchmarks even at 4600Mhz vs 5100/5000Mhz. The exception is Handbrake, but oddly enough not Premiere.
It would be interesting to figure out which instructions the various workloads use. Intel rocks in games and Handbrake, but has a greater than 500Mhz deficit in everything else.

Classic marketing trick, if you have more choice - better /worse deals in your lineup people will more likely to chose one (better deal ones) than the concurrent product.
AMD realized they can get some extra cash for some minor marketing/investment instead of releasing super value products like 1600AF
Other than that AMD cpus prices being always nosediving very fast after their release, unlike Intel ones, so they are really just ripping off the unpatient noobs.

Huh it's like they didn't plan the pricing better. They could've made a really good move here by bumping down prices of the non XT's a decent amount, placing the XT's in those previous price points, keeping the 3900X where it was at the top and then throw the 3900XT above that.
As long as there was enough of a savings between the 3800XT and 3900X it could've been argued as worth it, but with no price difference it's like some kind of cruel joke.

XT's are going to sell a lot of X and non X parts before Zen3 arrives limiting old stock discounting as supplies dwindle soon after the next gen launch.
XT's will be cost effective as they'll be the parts in stock at elevated discount pricing while saving the cost of the cooler for AMD and people won't complain that there wasn't even further discounting of the old parts because XT's will get that discounting.
