Check out the Level1 Techs review too. While this gives a decent overview of the out of the box experience, the L1T video goes into the performance differences if you tune the system. For one thing, 1900 MHz infinity fabric clock is reliably stable, which means you can use 3800MT/s memory. If you are doing memory bound tasks, you'll see some improvement there. For another, the stock and boost voltages are slightly lower. This means PBO2 can boost a little more aggressively without hitting voltage or power limits, and a little longer before hitting thermal limits. This means the benefit will mostly show up in bursty work loads. Compiling small projects, scrubbing around video streams, and similar things. How much difference is it going to make on your 10 second compile of your project? Depends on how often you hit compile. If you hit it after nearly every change, shaving even a single second off can make a huge difference on how much it intrudes on your focus.
Note that while it is still the same microarchitecture (zen2), and same die size, the process node has changed. It's what TSMC calls 7nm+, a refined 7nm process.
Anyway, at 100 price difference, it's not really worth it, but if it's like the 3800X, it'll end up about 30 more, or even 10 more on a good sale, at which point it's an obvious choice for us programmer types.

Great video as always. I seen a bunch of AMD fan boys saying the XT chips are the final blow to Intel. That's it's over for Intel they are done.
What you showed seems like a very very minimal gain comparing the X with XT. Honestly, nothing even worth mentioning tbh.
It's simple people , you want the best gaming performance hands down get intel.
You want renders and things like that, get AMD all the way.
You want to game mostly and sometimes render, I would say Intel. And the other way around, go with AMD.
You want best value AMD has that over Intel.
I'm glad both companies are close in competition, for us consumers.
And AMD fan boys, I wouldn't be celebrating just yet. If Intel doesn't do anything upcoming, AMD most likely will pass them (time to celebrate).
But if Intel does get the chip size down (I know they are struggling). AMD could go back to a position before ryzen. If Intel gets good yields.
Just remember Intel hasn't done smaller chips yet. Amd has, and i would say it's more of a tie as of right now. Which I think AMD should have passed them by now all around in performance with Intel struggling.

As Steve said at the end if the video spend that money on a better cooling solution and you'll get the same clocks (4.4ghz).
My 3900x is at 4.4ghz (all-core) 24/7 with a NZXT Kraken X62 and extremely good temps even under 100% CPU loads!
The XT variant is what we should have got from the start. My CPU is a perfect example. It was a golden chip, now it's a 3900X minus the T instead.
And don't think the 4000 series will be anything special either. Wait for the Zen+ version or more importantly the REAL next gen (5000 series) if you already have a 3000 series chip. Simple!
The 4000 series is only a stepping stone generation prior to DDR5 and totally new motherboards with the 5000 series.
Wait for that before you upgrade or you WILL be out if pocket. Think about new Ram new socket motherboard and by then REAL new Gen GPU's to go with that?
Same with Intel if you didn't already realise too. Don't upgrade until it's worth it! 13% IPC gains on 4000 series Ryzen CPU's!? Meh!
Wait for at least 30-50% IPC improvements with the 5000 series chips and DDR5 instead!!! You will thank yourself for waiting.

Pay and extra 100 for AMD's XT line up which performs pretty much on par with the none XT older models (i.e 3900x, 3800x and 3600x) or use your brain and spend that money wisely on the following:
- 100 on top of what you had already planned to spend on a GPU and actually see real world frame improvements.
- 100 on top of what you had already planned to spend on 16GB and get 32GB of RAM instead.
- 100 on top of what you had already planned to spend on your PSU and get a high quality Seasonic PSU instead.
- 100 towards your build and get an 1TB NVME instead of a 500GB NVME or 1TB SSD
- 100 towards your build and get an extra 4TB 3.5 HDD for your steam library
- 100 dollars on top of your cooling solution and get a better nice closed loop cooler
- 100 towards a better case, mechanical keyboard or gaming mouse.
- 100 towards a better monitor.
Personally id say wait for the 4000 series, failing that buy the standard X models and spend the 100 savings towards a GPU which is actually going to see real world game performance gains.

I wish COD warzone would add a benchmark or there was a way to add it to the vast amount of CPU and GPU benchmarks out there. The game scales up to 6 core 12 threads when tested. Anything above that does not make a difference to the fps counter. There is a noticable jump up to 6 core 12 thread. It is the one game right now that If I run it in 1440p will take my CPU temps up to 66 Oc spikes. For an example games like forza and tomb raider even maxed my cores never jump past 60Oc. I guess using the 6 core 12 threads is how they have so much on one map with 200 players active. It does paint the picture of where games are at right now though. This is one of thee most popular games right now and has been all year. I would be extremely interested to see how the quad core ryzen 3000 chips do in there. I would assume its the one game you will see a big jump from 4 cores to 6 cores in fps.

I bought a 3900x for mostly gaming, since I had the budget and wanted to go AMD for once. Also, I'm not a huge Esports person, so I don't need a 9900/10900k for the highest fps possible. (also I'm just rocking a 2070, so I'll be GPU bound anyway)
Another reason for my decision for the 3900x was to still have enough power to do anything I could want. From streaming to light editing or rendering work, it all runs well. (And I already made use of it, lending some cinema 4d rendertime to a friend)
I'm still mostly gaming, but I like having a powerful PC at my disposal... (it's like having toolbox, even though you're unlikely to need tools anyway; or like owning a car that has a bit more space than plan on needing)

Either 4700G or Zen 3 should be an improvement. We ll see. Probably going to have to stay on my Ryzen 5 3600 after the smoke clears and next gen consoles and Zen 3 release to finally make an upgrade decision. The little bastard has served me pretty well. I get better performance with a 2070s, and even did with my 1070, than GN would have you believe. Nothing against GN or saying they are lying, but I get higher performance numbers with my 3600 and 2070s at 1440p than he sometimes reports for 1080p with a 2080ti. I do find it a bit fishy though.

It'ed be kinda hilarious if they blacklist you for ...verifying their numbers... like, their numbers say this is objectively not worth the money. The only good thing about the XT launch is the drop in price for the comparable X line parts.
Honestly, a petty part of me almost wonders if THAT'S the driving force.
3600 is...the best option price per performance for most people still. But that XT is tempting . And whats this, the 3700X is only another 20 or less? That's a VALUE now! Over-all sale price goes u p. That kinda math applies up the entire stack for the parts that got XT values. The next tier looks a lot more tempting, and is only a couple bucks more than the lower tier parts used to be. But that 20 or so...adds up.

How can you guys recommend a 10900K in a Ryzen review knowing in this autumn Zen 2 will come out that will not require a socket change>? Even if is no performance gain with this chip and is just a refresh why you so hurt?, the same : if you just game ...bla bla bla , recommending Intel knowing are at x'th refresh on an old 14nm not mentioning power consumptions this time but when Bulldozer was pulling 250w and all of you just trashed it, now is no mention of power draw, strange, also no mention of the imens IPC gain that Intel need to compensate with high freq. ...

Just my 2 cents but isn't it the case where they matured there process so much it wouldn't be fair to owners of the older 3000 series? They can't give it a new number since it's the exact same architecture... I think AMD didn't expect the rather quick maturing of the process ... they didn't have a product line that requires these higher quality silicon ... They are just trying to get the most out of their wafers by doing this.... I would even go so far as to say that this will be a one time product line just to reduce wafer waste and unfair products... Where there might not be such an improvement with the next architecture during it's maturing period...
