Also, the light text on a light background in Discover must have been fixed in an update. I installed Lubuntu 19.04 in Virtualbox yesterday and I didn't have that issue.

kernel 5.0+ seems to be an amazing improvement but I agree with your initial thoughts fully. It's a shame it's only going to be supported for so long. But certainly the Ubuntu desktop team got a theme equally as nice as 10.04 even if subjectivity not as intuitive as Gnome 2 but yeah I enjoyed toying around with it. Much faster, cleaner over all. I am impressed over all. Congrats on your hardware upgrade. That threadripper gives Intel a clear run for its money. Something Intel has needed for some time. Ubuntu Mate just seems like nothing new and that's probably a good thing if your looking for something stable. Memory usage is highly impressive, using less than my Mint mate instalation. Not the a few hundred matters much with something like 24 gb like I have but it sure helps with booting even on SSDs. Another great show!

I have seen Ubuntu Budgie pull less than 400 MB at idle. But when I stream I-Heart Radio for 6 hours a day, it eats up my entire 4-gig physical RAM and about a quarter of my 2-gig swap space, and maxes out my processor to the point of being just usable enough to close the browser.
I have a new laptop on the way, and I'm trying to decide to whether to stick with Ubuntu Budgie or go back to Kubuntu.

For me on my main PC, Ubuntu 18.04 made it impossible for me to use the proprietary Nvidia drivers, forcing me to use the inferior Nouveau drivers. 18.10 had really bad network issues that stopped me from installing packages. 19.04 works perfectly so far, very pleased with this release. I really like GNOME 3's workflow, too.

I'm new to Ubuntu but i found Ubuntu Budgie is the most Friendly user interface and Preconfigured for beginner like me,
and yes it's good and run smooth and fast on laptop.
and I would recommend Ubuntu Budgie 19.04 or 18.04 (For LTS) if you are new or beginner like to Linux distros :)

That first Ubuntu window where you said you can't move it and had to actually answer it; there's a skip button in the top-left corner ;) I know you used it, but saying you -had- to answer it is a bit misleading, especially for new users interested in trying Linux for the first time.

winner of distros for me is xubuntu
what i dont like about this release: lubuntu has no minimal install mode so u get every kind of useless crap on your computer and ubuntu's drag'n'drop not working properly yet its quite a basic function.

Why the different Ubuntu flavors don't have an unified (or at least aligned) theming and design language? Like for example Manjaro, that has several desktop environments (Gnome, Xfce, KDE) but all share icons, colours and other design cues.
