The ULTIMATE Guide to using Matrix! Techlore This tutorial dives into getting started with the Matrix protocol for direct messages, groups, rooms, communities, spaces, bridging, and more! Matrix is an open source, decentralized protocol with several different use-cases & clients Rogue: If Spaces just had a way to organize rooms into groups like Discord it would be a million times better. I have a ton of rooms bridged to Discord, but on Matrix its just a big list that is constantly reordered based on which room you last messaged in. Very ugly, and makes it hard to keep large servers organized.

Dezentralisation doesn't really benefit a normal user, who needs a massener application for private communication. But it's a real game changer if you want to implement a messenger solution for your organisation. You can have your own server, with your own user management and full control of all internal data but your employees/members can communicate with everyone in the world.

I personally default to giving my element to normies over signal because of the phone number thing
because since signal uses phone numbers still it probably makes it more confusing and allows for texting insecurely if they forget about signal one day
and just remember the phone number part ): .yeah usernames are more normie proof

A few of my friends and I have been using matrix for a while now on my own private homeserver. It's really quite good for 1: 1 chats and a few groups. There's lots of work needed to other parts of it like spaces, but I do hope they succeed and one day I'll be inviting others to it.

You didn't cover verifying your own devices and securing and recovering your encryption keys. For example if you lose access to your only logged-in device, you won't be able to read your encrypted messages again unless you've backed up and can recover your encryption keys.

Thank you very much for this tutorial, you saved me a lot of time. I'm looking for something similar to discord because lately discord is quite toxic with its rules and this option is good but slow, so I'll keep looking and I hope one day Matrix gets better.

I didn't understand the private chat function in matrix. It's encrypted but I couldn't read a chat from my last session anymore even if i had my passphrase. (without the verifying function)

Thanks for the video. I did know about Matrix even used it some. My circle of friends haven't caught up to me so I don't use it very much. I learned some new things.

session seems better than this, requires no info, truly decentralised, e2ee and onion routed, single client but it's FOSS so anyone can make a client

Have heard -so- much on Matrix over the years, this is the first time I've actually seen it in use. Thank you very much for this!
