I am old fashioned and I love my 1983 Amp with Loudness switch and a big KNOB - no wireless for me.
100 Bucks Range? My top pics would be in this order:
1. AKG K612 PRO
2. Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (250 Ohm) - for ppl. who love sharper hights than AKG.
BTW I still like my 80ties vintage Sennheiser HD250 linear (first edition)
PS: I wouldn't buy Creative or bluetooth - just my 2 cents.
PPS: People say you can beef up even cheesy headphones with -TrueFi-. Never tried it.

I'm thinking of getting the amp for gaming. I really only play Battlefield V and Rainbow Six Siege. Has anyone tried SXFI with these games and does it make a difference to you?
I currently use the Astro A50 headset and consider it pretty good, but I really don't have much to compare it to. I compared the A50 to my wireless Corsair headset and thought the A50 sounded better in these two games, but that's the only comparison I have made.

I've had the Super X-Fi Amp for over almost 6 months and I love it for everything except first person shooter games. I've played tournaments at ESL Cologne, but for the life of me, I could never use it for pinpoint sound positioning in fps games. Other games with open worlds, where highly accurate sound isn't as important, is wonderful. Movies and music with this thing is amazing too. I can't imagine not using it even on Youtube videos.

I would definitely go with the amp over the air so I could wear my favorite headphones. I have 2 pairs of sony headphones that sound great, but arent comfortable for me. One hurts the top of my head and the other hurts my ears over time. I have a pair of astro headphones that are so comfortable and I could wear them forever without any problems. Wish I could just try it out with my astros to hear what it would sound like though.

I have the Air because I needed a new pair of bluetooth headphones (I had a Creative WP-350 for YEARS. R. I. P) both for the go and a good headset for my PC/Switch/PS4/laptop. I love them personally, but I do wish they were a bit more portable. I know they aren't going to be as easy to carry around as the 350 or my PortaPros, but they could be a bit more collapsible.

I bought the SXFi amp and its ok. It did not 'blow my mind' but it does open up the soundstage. Thing is (and this is always going to be subjective) I can't tell the difference between this and the Sennheiser GSX 1000. They sound identical and do the exact same thing at the same price point(ish. The SXFi does have the advantage of being ultra portable.

I had both but returned the air. The touch controls were inconsistent, 10 hour battery life wasn't that great for such big head phones, and while using it to make calls some times the people on the other end would hear static and other kinds of feed back/noise. Just the amp is far better and like you said you can pair it with any headphones you want.

Does one have to use over the ear headphones with the amp, or will a pair of Bose in ear wired ear buds work? I was either way on the tech, but leaning towards the headset. Now I'm not so sure. I would actually prefer to be able to use my earbuds. Excellent video by the way, thanks much.

Hi Adam,
I wonder if you could make a comparison between Super X-Fi Amp and Sennheiser GSX-1000? I use GSX-1000 with GSP-500 and HD-599 and I quite like it for every type of game. I'd just love to have a more portable solution as well, as long as sound quality is comparable.

Honestly found xfi mode pretty bad. It was like old school eax 3d. The demo track (got a lot of love) sounded fantastic but everything else seems terrible compared to real speakers. Maybe it needs content to be mixed in a specific way to sound great, who knows.
